Hi
another newbie here, but I've been lurking for ages and getting lots of great info - its a great site.

One problem I can't seem to solve - is sorting out the pillion backrest on the Vario topbox. My wife finds it very uncomfortable and I'd really like to improve it somehow.

Is there an aftermarket pad thats fits or has anyone got a good diy solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there

There is pad available which we had on an earlier GS but my wife found that it irritated her against her back protector.

On the new bike we have no backrest pad and she finds it ok but prefers the box on the higher setting.

Mrs Bear (5'4" and lightly built) has rested her back on a Vario topbox and backrest for the best part of 15000 miles (including several 300 mile days) without a problem. All her jackets, however, include a back protector which might well help. What sort of discomfort is the lady suffering from, and what riding clothes does she wear?.

thanks for the feedback.

We did 3k in a few days last year - so its not stopping us getting out, but shes tough! If I was on the back I'd be moaning all day I think.

I can see that the location of the pad pushes onto the back protector in the jacket (streetguard2) and leaves a bruise after a few hours - I'm sure it could be better, but it may be down to height. My wife is about 5'5
