Excuse the ignorance but I don't know this is. Does it go on top of the pillion seat and turn it into a rack? Never seen one of those. It just turns the rear seat into another luggage rack so there are now two racks at the back. Is that correct? Is there a particular advantage over just tying a bag to the rear seat?

I have similar on my 2006 GSA. It replaces the rear seat on mine. Is great for strapping a tail pack to when I have a roll bag on the rear rack with the tent in it.
Better than strapping it over the rear seat imho.

Saves you from damaging the rear seat and gives you lots of tie down options.

Well worth having in ya armoury for travelling alone.
