Needing somewhere to carry my airman pump to go with the puncture repair kit and not wanting to have the boxes on all the time. I have the vario panniers and have looked at various ways of fixing a box somewhere. The tool tubes aren't big enough in diameter. Came across the thread about recessing the pillion seat. Got a seat and away I went. The silver thing in the middle is a strap that keeps it in place when you remove the seat.

Tis a nice little mod if you ride solo, so no disc locks or anything else...............

How comfortable is the seat to use?

I've sat on the seat and pull down on the hand grips, I don't have a lot of padding on my backside, you can't feel anything "hard" or "funny shaped" Anyone else with a large rear won't be able to feel anything.

Good Job Mr T

I put my full tool kit in the seat recess ,then I put my Slime pump and leads in a plastic bag inside a Givi under rack rear bag, disk lock and cleaning kit go in the two Givi side bags. Top box would be easier no doubt but I prefer not to.:thumb

I've gone right off the top box since I found out how much better the bike is without it. Where to put all the shit I usually carry, though?

Someone of my acquaintance only rides with people who have all the puncture repair gear with them so he doesn't have to carry it himself... :blast

I have a mate like that He rides half a Ducati.

I have to be careful with SWMBO around on the topic of bags, I have more tank bags, rack bags, tail packs, roll up bags and the like than she has handbags lol.

Remove the pillion seat and the rack, fit the luggage plate and attach the top box immediately behind the rider's seat.

I've always fancied trying that set up. Weight moved more over the rear wheel. Perhaps a bit improvement on the handling. I don't know if the air drag is reduced as well.

The rider gains a back support so whats not to like ?

I have a r1200rt now and created a post in the RT section enquiring if you could do the same on a RT. It seem not. Really a bit like a police edition model.

I'm not a fan of top boxes but when I tour its a necessary evil.
