Help please,
I am keen on getting some Pilot roads and I was wondering how a rear dual compound Pilot Road 2 would go with a normal pilot road front.
It appears that Michelin do not make a PR2 front for the 1200gs.
Has anybody done this?

Hello and welcome to UKGSer

Is this because Michelin don't make the PR2 in 19 inch size?

I can't imagine there is any problem using the newer PR2 rear with the older PR front. Michelin importer/distie should be able to confirm.

It's a combination that is approved by Michelin, I believe.

In the same way that BT021/BT020 are.

Pilot road II is a great tyre - especially on the rear wheel.

Slightly inspired by this post, and also by personal circumstance, I thought I'd poke them and see what their response was. They were quite quick, less than an hour or so, but:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your recent e-mail.
We have allocated your message the reference number indicated within the title. If you need to contact us again regarding your message, we would be grateful if you could include the reference number.

Unfortunatley, there are no current plans to produce the Pilot Road 2 in the 110/80 R 19 tyre size.

Once again thank you for your interest in Michelin.

Yours sincerely

Webmaster.

Thanks for all the replies, it looks like there is no point waiting for a dual compound front.

I wonder about whether the dual compound is a good idea on a front tyre anyway. The tread usually wears out on the sides before the middle.

That is a top test that now has me leaning toward the Bridgestones. Pity they didn't test for how long they last as well.

I've been running the pilot 2 rear with pilot 1 front for nearly 2 years. They are absolutely brilliant in the wet and I get fantastic milage from them, nearly double that from the Anakees I used to use. I do 25000 miles a year in all weathers and so a high milage tyre that works well in all conditions makes the Mich's perfect for me.

I've not tried the Bridgestones, mostly as the high milage from the Mich's swings the balance for me. If I did half the milage a year and most of that was in the summer, I'd be tempted to work my way through the other brands so I could make my own mind up.

I used to swear by BT020's on my last bike, great in the wet etc. Now I'm on the 12GS using Battlewings I can't fault them. If they last longer than the 020's used to then I've got no complaints.

If you really want to make your 12GS more road dedicated, it is possible to fit the 17 inch front wheel from a R1200R (or similar) which will take the Pilot Road 2 front hoop.
