I've just ordered a pinlock insert for my visor, how difficult is it to prepare your own visor. I know I have to drill 2 X 5mm holes, and that they need to be pretty acurate. The supplier advised against doing it myself, but he wanted to sell me a visor pre drilled at £70.00. Any advice welcomed

I've done one in the past and it came with a template that you put on the visor and then drill. Dead easy if you take your time, but if you get it wrong it won't seel agaist the visor which makes it pointless.

I also had a Arai visor sent back to Arai and they drilled it for free, but this was via hein gericke so I'm not sure if it was an offer based on the fact they were a main agent.

I assume the £70 would have included a new visor pre-drilled including the pinlock? Personally, amd knowing how finicky it can be to get the right fit, I would buy the new visor as well since I doubt I could guarantee to myself not to screw up the drilling. I would use that in the winter and use the other in the summer or just keep as a spare.

£57 for a pre drilled visor, £84 supplied with an insert, and then delivery

Why not use a "Fog City" visor insert instead. No drilling and easy to fit. I have used them in the past with great results.

I emailed the supplier 2 weeks ago enquiring if one was available for an S1, I'm still waiting for a reply.

I got one for the R1 which is the same visor - I hated it. It was much smaller than the pinlock and wherever I looked, the edges just got in my field of vision and was really annoying. Wrote off a perfectly good visor with that effort. Each to his own though, I'm sure others out there will have had a better experience.

Fog city's are great if you don't need glasses or lenses because they can cause focus issues if you do. You can also get an area around the edges that are prone to misting. these comments are based on using them with a Suomy and Frank Thomas full face helmets. :P

Pinlock landed today, I taped the insert into the visor gasket side out, to make sure it was in the right place and not fowling the visor seal. I then marked the bottom of the pinlock holders with a 1mm drill bit , spinning it in my fingers to start the holes in the visor. I then removed the insert and opened the holes up to 5mm to take the pins, reversed the insert and fitted it between the pins, gasket side down. The pins are concentric and the fit was tight up to the visor. Fingers crossed, hopefully I've made the right choice, and fitting the insert was easy, so long as you take your time, and make sure it's in the right place before drilling

Can't beat pinlock and we'll worth the cost :thumb

I had a Fog City that worked fine on a System 5 with its double curve visor. I tried one on my Shuberth C2 and it fogged between the layers apparently because the visor has a double curvature. Work that one out. :(

Looks like I'll have to shell out for a new visor and Pinlock. I don't fancy drilling when I cant be sure the template is sitting properly.
