Pinlock...

Will the Pinlock work with a BMW System V helmet?

If you get the kit to drill the holes in the visor - then I don't see why not? :nenau

I think the BMW "double glazing visor" is just a pinlock'd one.

They prevent a lot more misting than anti-mist visors, but once they are saturated with moisture steam up just the same. When I first fitted mine to my Sport Integral helmet it was fantastic, for about a week. It then started misting up a biot and progressively became less effective, until I removed the visor and dried it on a radiator overnight

As a comparison I've a fog city fitted to a Sport Integral helmet. And, when it's really wet it needs some airflow to stop it misting on the inside. Ie need to be above 30 mph for it to stay clear

IMHO the pinlock and city fog are not the problem, it's the helmet that causes the problems :(

Are the pinlock inserts all the same size? I've gone and scratched mine trying to clean it :blast All I need is the insert, not a whole new visor (£££)

As far as I know, up until last year - all the inserts were the same, and then they introduced one specifically for the Arai visor with the vents.

If you have the straight - oval one......... it should be standard (with standard distance between the slots)

Not wishing to argue or anything (honestly :D), I just wondered if you've got the Pinlock adjusted to fit the visor properly? The pins are elliptical so they can be adjusted to make the visor a tighter fit. I've never had water between the visor and pinlock, and even last weekend whilst riding in rain, snow and hail, I never had my visor mist up on a 185 mile trip.
Just asking :thumb2

Good point. I fitted it following the instructions to the letter, however....... that doesn`t neccessarily mean I did it right.........:augie

I can but try again. :blast

Sold on the system

... I use an Arai Astro-R and pinlock combination and use the factory prepped visors. The inserts fit perfectly. If you do fit your own the pins, they have an off-set to give a bit of adjustment, the insert must fit tight to the visor.

... A combination of clear and tinted inserts on a clear visor saves the aggro of carrying two visors for day/night riding. I've found tinted ones that are dark enough for the brightest days.

... The 'spare' insert will sit inside my jacket pocket, inside it's original cardboard sleeve, without the need for a visor pouch or luggage on the bike.

... Only drawback is the clear edge space around the tinted insert, it's not quite as slick as a full tint visor but the convenience makes up for that and you soon ignore the gap. (I did once see a rice-rocket pilot who'd masked out the gap on the visor with dark tape - it looked like shit!)

... As Al said the Arai inserts do have 'notches' for the eyebrow vents. Arais are so prone to misting it's worth putting a clear insert inside a tinted visor.

... The only time I've had any misting at all is because I haven't seated the insert correctly. Make sure you keep (or wipe) the edge seal on the insert clean and the 'line' around the inside of the visor where it seats.

... Make sure both visor and insert are absolutely dry when you fit the insert, if I've had a soaking I detach the visor, remove the insert and leave them on top of the boiler, or in the airing cupboard, for an hour or so.

Thanks all. Reports seem to be mainly positive, and I do like the idea that it can be taken off and stashed away.

I just bought a new visor for my Nitro N700V and it came with the pinlock posts on it.

It came from http://www.racevisors.co.uk/ and I assume they are available elsewhere.

They also do the pinlock inserts and seem to list specific fitments for different helmets on their site.

It is. Comes as a complete visor with 'pinlock' already fitted. A bit pricey at £65 especially as the visor it replaced was almost 'as new'.

Works really well, as you can see:

The pinlock on my Arai is great, never had a misting visor problem with it fitted:thumb2, all I need now is a mini pinlock for my glasses, my new plastic lenses mist up but my old glass ones did not:confused:

Well I like and have had better results with FogCity. Just bought a new Arai and they come with the pinlock as standard. First thing I did was try it out and found it to be crap.:hide So went back to FogCity. :thumb
So am I the only one for FogCity? :nenau
