Hello all,

Thought this might be of interest.

I've recently been working on a project for a chap who's developed a general purpose tracking device which is now available. It's a little black box, which can been wired into your bike / car / boat / etc..., anything with a 12v supply. It comes with an app that you can access via smart phone or computer so you can see where whatever you've attached it to is. So if you bike gets nicked, or you've forgotten where you left it, you can find it.

That looks great Donnie, far less expensive that the other bits of kit on the market.
It might sound like a daft question but, What would happen if your bike got lifted and you informed the police? I know they have the kit to find property equipped with the other trackers but if you wnet to them and told them where you bike/car/boat was - is there a danger that they will say "it's not lost, you know where it is, go and get it back yourself"?

Mind you I see a business opportunity here - repatriation of property and swift street justice for the perps......:thumb

£175

Here's one for £13.79 including postage, but you get what you pay for I guess. I bought something similar for about £45 which works very well and always gives an accurate position whenever I try it out.

I don't know Popell.

Regarding other products, I know of several others, but yes, like with everything you get what you pay for. I think it's reasonably well priced for what it is, the main saving is that the service contract is much cheaper than other offerings. Ive seen others for the same money and then cost £100 a year plus to maintain the service.

Hi donnie

That does look interesting, and the ongoing service cost does at least seem reasonable.

But it just leaves me with questions.

What is the current drain like, that is always a worry when you leave it on a motorbike for a long period of time.

Pictures, people want to see what they are buying, similarly dimensions to see how big it is.

Confusing variation of device, it would be nice to think one device could be moved between vehicles, but this suggests they are limited to a specifc job, and again where are the photos to show what you get with each model, and what differentiates them.

Functionality wise seems mostly limited to location only, where most trackers are able to report a fair bit more info, is it possible to see a track?
That £40 one does
"Set multiple functions of security, positioning, monitoring surveillance, emergency alarms and tracking in its entirety
Support motion detection, external alarm output, and Email photo, FTP photo, FTP record, when alarm is triggered"

I've probably missed some some of the above answers, I can't say I looked exhaustively, I am sure that it is early days for both the product and the Web Site, so I am sure there is more to come.

The biggest advantage is the ongoing cost without trying to manage your own sim.

Otherwise, thanks for sharing. :)

Isn't there something very similar on the market already? :nenau

The main problem I can see is that because it uses a GPS signal, surely you can't track it while it's in a van or a shed. :(

Useful though for the wife and kids to see where I'm going when touring abroad. :thumb2

It is possible to do a simmilar thing with an old blackberry pfone using blackberry safe store or whatever its called
i have a mate who uses this method with his old blackberry (better than mazuma mobile) and a £5 PAYG sim !
