If history and old buildings are of interest Stirling Castle is worth a visit as it isn't just a ruin, a lot of refurbishment done in recent years, the interior of the great hall roof is a masterpiece.
If you are both fit then the Wallace memorial also at Stirling is interesting as well. Lots of steps after walking up the hill.
An engineering masterpiece is the Falkirk wheel which replaced I believe nine locks and lifts full size narrow boats from one level to the next. You can take a boat trip at the same time.
All of the above are close to the A9.
In Glasgow itself there is so much to see, give us a clue what you like, but for me the Kelvingrove museum and art gallery is excellent as is the Burrell Collection. One man's lifetime spending the fortune he made on art and artifacts. He gifted the entire collection to Glasgow on the understanding that the City would build a permanent place to display it all, the city dragged it's heels but eventually
built something worthy of it.
Nearby in Bellahouston Park is the
House for an Art Lover dedicated to the work and art of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. They also do a very good lunch but you'll need to book in advance.
Edit. Sorry, just realised that you're going back south this Sunday, probably best to avoid Glasgow like the plague due to the Commonwealth Tax Frittering Games. Roads in and around Glasgow are likely to be horrific, stay on the motorway. Come back before the Scottish Government can think up another daft scheme to spend tax revenue and put money into the pockets of hoteliers, restaurants and taxi drivers.
