i checked my brakes earlier and found that i could move both front disc a small amount on the bolts i checked the bolts there tight so is this normal :nenau

How many millions R&D did you spend to arrive at that opinion.:blast

Which is why they do what they do and I do what I do!

I am fully aware of what a floating disc is thanks, I wasn't aware that they'd be floating on the mounting bolts!

R&D depts also spent wads on the F800 but it doesn't stop the front brake line getting caught in the tyre does it?

Do a search for brake disc and movement.

There shouldn't be any noticable movement. Do they knock if you apply the brakes when pushing the bike or can you move them back and forth by hand and get them to knock ? .

The usual cause is the mounting washers disintegrating.

A new set of bobbins and washers usually cures it.

I ended up sticking washers on both sides to stop mine rattling.

The front disk on the 1200GS/GSA are floating (as stated by others).

They should have 'in-out' movement, so they rattle if you, er rattle them.
However, there should not be any rotational movement at all.

If you add extra washers to stop them moving, you may warp the disks.:blast

Replacing the existing washers with new washers didn't stop the disk rattling about and moving in ALL directions. Adding them to both sides stopped vertical motion and I can still move the disc parallel to the axle. Admittedly, this may not be ideal but the bike's done 90k (10k with the double washers) and the disc's not warped. It's a 1150 GSA mind so probably a bit less upset by these things than the 1200s.
