I'm lucky enough in my job that I have a massive green area that I got to get some practice in at off road riding. I was sent to the curragh camp in Kildare the other day and between working got out on the plains.
I got to see what the bike was like off raod for the first time and have to say I had a ball. The smile was all over my face. Got the bike sideways loads and got it to fifth gear cross country on the pegs all the way. Lots of steep climbs in parts to and other then approaching some of them in fourth gear with not enough power and the back wheel locking up when it cut out due to the shaft drive I got on great. Got used to it fairly quickly though.
The book I got off ebay Adventure Riding Techniques by Robert Wicks and Greg Baker (foreword by Simon Pavey) has prove itself as a great guide. Put some of the techniques into pratice and they work.
Love the bike more and more as I ride it.
