A day and a bit grafting cleaning and tarting me Ould Xsara Picasso up for MOT (NCT)

New spring on drivers side a couple of replacement lower arms and 2 tyres

238,645 miles and she flew thru no notes or advisories except she'll be due a set of tyres on the rear fairly soon

The fella doin the testing was saying that everyone he knew with a Xsara had to get a replacement rear axle and was amazed mines original as are my front and rear shocks, brake drums, gearbox, engine (exc T belt and waterpump) dashboard, radio CD, all the controls on the wheel still light up The fan control and cabin heat control valve still do what they should

Mid July what you see in the picture happened!

Now I had left her ticking over outside the shop with my dad in it and had been 5 minutes What I thought was a leaking water pump turned out to be the waterpump shaft sheared!

I drove it home The next day I had to move it away from the garage so I drove it around the front and back that night she never jumped the belt and whilst she got hot whilst I drove her home she didn;t redline

And I just fitted a new T belt, waterpump and coolant and away she went first turn of the key!

This My Friends Is the equivalent of a K100 in the car world!

Heading to my folks place last week the crank pulley decided to finally spit the dummy

It had been mildly chattering for a few weeks but no where near the usual death knell that they make or I wouldn;t have attempted the run

Well we made it all the way up over the Glenshane pass up towards Dungiven and we'd just passed the Ponderosa pub when the rattle started

So sudden that I thought WTF

Pulled over and looked and couldn't see anything

So thought sensible to go back down the hill towards home

We pulled over in the cafe at the foot of the Glenshane pass and Dad had the idea of using his RAC card, but they couldn;t find him on the system and eventually offered to get us home for £186

So Since the motor was still running and everything working I decided to nurse her towards home and if something bad happened we would call out my bro in law with his big trailer hopefully a lot nearer home cos I didn;t fancy paying for fuel for his tuned 90 TD5 and big car trailer

So the result she got us all the way home dropping off my dad and then over to my place!

Result!

New Bottom Pulley £50 from GSF

About an hour and a half fecking around between snow and hail showers today and I have a sweet running motor again!

This is the the second pulley but the last one was about 15,000 miles ago and was second hand

Mileage today a mere 455 miles more than the pic! :aidan :aidan :aidan
