I`ve just fitted the new Plug and Play HID50 kit from Les Wassel (HID50.com) to my new 2010 1200GS. It comes with the ballasts fitted to a CNC`d ally bracket, all the leads fitted and full assembly instructions. The kit went on this morning in my garage, remarkably straightforwardly (if thats a real word) and only with the bare minimum of F`s and C`s as there was some confusion about mounting the bracket to the oil cooler bolts. Anyway, it all went on fine, fired up dazzlingly first time and looks really neat, even for a ham fisted ape like me. I have no affiliations with Les, just thought I`d sing the praises of my new shiny thing.

Will this kit from Les fit earlier 12Gs? If you don't mind me asking what sort of dosh does this kit cost as i want to fit HIDs to my bike an 06 12GS. Had HIDs on my old 1150 not Les' kit. think they came from Nippy normans. Were the best lights ever. Even better than those fitted to the car.:thumb

The kit as supplied was £220 and physically should fit a 2006 GS (my last bike was an 06). I suggest you email Les ([email protected]) as he is very helpfull and should know if it will fit.

I have Les kit (50w HID's) mounted on my 06 GS.:thumb

OK, due to popular demand here is a link to pic of the kit all laid out on my missus`s dining table (she was`nt best pleased)

Nice. I went for just the dipped unit, cost me £60 from ebay, though there was no bracket, the ballast sticks to the inside panel. Haven't used the main beam since, Heartily recommend the upgrade

I agree with Pork, £60 off Ebay, fitted in about 30 mins and you really don't need the high beam. I used mine all through the winter with no probs at all.

Fitted the whole kit and caboodle to my 58 GSA. Dip and main 50 watts and spots at 35 watts, all mounted on the nice CNC'd bracket. £330 all in and don't dismiss the full kit till you've seen it peel paint off the car that you zoom up behind :D

Ace bit of kit and highly recommended.

Everyone bigs Les up and I’m sure he does a fab job... But you’re really paying for the top customer service. Let’s break the kit down...

2 x HID bulbs and Ballast (50w) – I got mine from Subzero for £90

2 x Light caps – as supplied by Les in is ‘all in one kits’ – these are about £2 each from BMW!

Ballast mount – I bought a radiator protector and with the two ‘mounts’ that came with the Subzero they fit nicely. Cost of the radiator cover £30 from Beowulf (http://beowulf-performance-products.com/shop/imageview.asp?file=rgs 1200 rad_FS.JPG) . The thin metal mounts in the HID kit slide nicely between the bottom of the radiator and the radiator protector. If anyone wants a pic then I can e-mail one.

Installation Support – Well in my opinion (and I’m so super mechanic) a half trained monkey could fit a HID kit

So for £124 I got two 50w HIDS fitted and all working fine. To be honest, if one of the bulbs blew I’d just buy another of e-bay. If I’d bought one from Les then he would replace it FOC due to 1 year guarantee, but the way I look at it he has made AT LEAST £200 out of you so that’s the least I would expect!

I’m sure that Les will be here telling us all that the kits he supplies are of a superior quality but I’d rather have £200 in my back pocket and use it to fix any issues I have in the future.

Cheers

Am I missing something here.......

So for £124 I got two 50w HIDS fitted and all working fine

.....but doesn't the kit from Les include 35w Aux lights too? I appreciate that your solution is cheaper but I don't think it's £200 cheaper if you include the additional lights. :rob

Apologies, I stand corrected. Missed the Aux lights. When I was looking at getting HID’S I did get a quote from Les, but to me the number didn’t stack up. Don’t have the PM anymore but from memory it was a hell of a lot more that my chosen solution.
Cheers
Phil
