So what's the deal with plug caps and leads. Do I need special plug caps at all? I remember that when I replaced the caps on my R80 I put 1kohm caps on from BMW, but I cant remember why??
Or am I overthinking this, can I just go down to the auto shop, buy 2 leads and 2 caps and install??

I went beach riding today and at one stage I though I had to switch to reserve as the bike felt like it was starving. Well, when I touched the fuel tap I quickly figured out that there was an electrical leak from the plug. Took off the plug cap to dry and as I took it off it cracked. luckily could still clip it on and then it was running fine again.

On all my other bikes I've owned I used NGK.... But for some reason I always use OME BMW on the Bemmers after going through a couple of sets of NGK in quick sucession on my 1976 R100RS back in the 80'S:comfort

Beach riding you lucky lucky bar@)d:rolleyes:

I'm a novice to airheads but the previous owner told me that you can replace the metal caps with generic caps but he suggested it should be NGK but 5 ohm. Was he talking Boll*x?

Use 5 K Ohm caps

Bosch make the shielded ones and are available as a seperate item then you can make yourself up a new set of leads with copper core stuff they don;t seem to like the silicone

My bike came from germany fitted with nology hotwire leads, supposewdly giving a bigger lump of spark from the sandard coil. They seem to work fine and the platinum plugs while a bit rusty around the top seem to be lasting well. I will however be reverting back to standard plugs and leads from motoworks later in year just to see what difference there is.
