I'm sure this is somewhere on the forum, but I can't find it. There must be a way to remove the spark plug outer cover on a twin cam without damaging the paintwork on the valve cover. I tried plastic cycle tyre levers, but even they are too hard and damaged the paint.

Also, the plastic coil removal tool is useless, but I guess you all know that.

Give them a good squirt of WD40 down the sides then pull out from the end the cable enters. WD40 will also ease the removal of the coils.

So, no magic hidden slot to pry them off? I did think about warming it up with a hair dryer, suppose that wouldn't do any harm either.

Just get a plug removal tool from eBay for about £8

Pulls it out hassle free every time

But a coil removal tool won't shift the cover. WD40 and pull from the cable end.

A small cranked lever like a purposely bent old screwdriver will pop the coil out.

screwdriver on cloth..but I do agree its not easy. plus 1 for the plastic plug cap puller. Next time Ill buy the the more expensive tool! monkeys and peanuts will be on my headstone!

It cost me a lot of money, it never goes off road and I like it to be clean(ish). If that's a problem for you, good.

I'll repeat what bendy toy has already pointed out as some are still getting it wrong.......... it's the plug cover on a twin cam he's trying to remove, not the plug cap.....

A bit of silicone grease on the tabs when u refit makes it a doddle to remove next time.

Thanks Shunt. Makes sense. Silicone grease when fitting it, WD40 when removing, and pull from the bottom. Frankie Howard would have some fun with that one!

Not for me, but obviously for you, if you worry about getting a bike dirty or damaged through using it for what its designed for, then it kind of defeats the prupose of having it. But we are all different, its your bike whatever floats your boat.
