plug wire removal

Just finished service on my newly purchased 02 GSA (single plug) and got to the plug change bit. My toolkit doesnt have the removal tool thingo to get the plug lead off. Whats the collective wisdom on plug wire removal without it?Thanks.

The tool is pretty crap anyway, i tend to pull it off gently with long nosed pliers. Not had a problem yet.
