Any idea how to make an Interphone Tribe PMR talk to a Kenwood TK3201?

Kenwoods have CTCSS enabled on all channels by default. Try one of the following combinations.

I bought a Tribe for and Interphone F4 equipped mate prior to a tour this summer. Very disappointing if the truth be told, was returned for a refund on our return, supplier tried another unit and the returned one and agreed that there was an issue. There's no way of adjusting the volume and, it had a mind of it's own.

I didn't like the way that it could only be used via bluetooth, no speaker or mic made it useless for anything off the bike. Decent/OK range for what appears to be a cheapish unit. All this for £100  was expecting better.

Thanks Bumpkin, not wishing to show ignorance here but what would I actually set on the Kenwood and on the Tribe? I found this table in the Kenwood manual but couldn't figure out what it means. I figured out how to set the CTCSS channel on the tribe but not on the Kenwood.

Agree about the lack of functionality on the Tribe - I will try it but not that hopeful

If your Kenwood is on the default settings then all you need to do is select the channel number from the left column of the table. The PMR and CTCSS frequency are pre-set to those shown in the other columns. Unless you've had your Kenwoods plugged into your PC and re-programmed them then that should work.

Most other PMR radios such as the Tribe allow you to adjust the PMR and CTCSS frequency against each channel. The Kenwoods are designed to be handed out to security guards, construction workers etc. who don't want to know about setting such things up, just switch to channel X and go.

Don't bother with channels 13 - 16 and their digital squelch tones, I did figure these setting out for my mate's Tribe but they didn't improve matters.

For starters; Just set your Kenwood to channel 3 and the Tribe to channel 3 CTCSS tone 13.

Hope that makes sense....

This may HELP

it shows what the default channels on the Kenwood are set too it's a bit clearer to read than the Kenwood manal version.

that's great - thanks, I think I understand that. So, if I set the Tribe to Channel 3 and CTCSS 13 and the Kenwood to 3 it should work.

I'll try and report back:aidan

Well, that didn't work.

I set the tribe to Channel 7 and set the CTCSS to 13 per the table, then set the Kenwood to Channel 7 - which should be set as standard to CTCSS 13.

Not a peep from either:mad:

then re-read Bumpkins post where he bemoans the lack of mike and speaker on the stupid Tribe - paired my SRC up and the Kenwood does indeed seem to talk to the tribe.

But, the SRC doesn't pair with both the GPS and the Tribe at once - I guess both want to use a headset profile, which the SRC can't manage.

So looks like it won't actually do what I want, which is to connect to the GPS, phone and PMR.

Channel 7 is 7 ctss 19 not 13 :blast

yes, my mistake - I set 7 to CTCSS 19 and 3 to CTCSS 13 - got the radio's talking but, as above, you can ONLY have the radio connected to the Schuberth. So I can't use it with my Nav IV GPS.

Looks like Autocom will get a sale at the bike show....

Well at least I know I'm not doing anything wrong. Maybe the next update will allow use of a BT radio and the GPS. I've updated the firmware to V3, but in all honesty it's a bit flaky. I've had to re-pair the Nav IV and the SRC about 4 times, but I suppose I have been fiddling about. I'm going to take the Tribe back (bought it all from Infinity in Farnborough) and it's not been used.

The SRC will do for navigation and music (I used the Mehtunes transfer package - very easy) from the Nav IV, and the iPhone.

Bike to bike will have to wait a bit.

thanks for your help,

thanks for your help,

After a few teething problems, I am quite happy with my Tribe radio now. I have an Icom radio and friends with Kenwood. If you set your Kenwood to channel 6 and Tribe to channel 2 ctcss to 18 should be able to talk. The only problem I have is gettingthe vox setting right on the Tribe. Have some clips on Youtube if it helps. Also using Interphone F4 Bluetooth units.

Any problems pm me,

Regards

Nigel

Thanks, I do now have the Tribe talking to the Kenwood fine - the limitation is the Schuberth SRC which can only connect to 1 "terminal" device - ie you can connect to either a phone, or a GPS, or a PMR, but only one at one time.

Out of interest, though, how did you get the Tribe to activate? I hate Vox,
so I disabled the Vox on the SRC. There's a button on the SRC which is used to activate a phone, but it didn't seem to work with the Tribe, so I guess I would have to leave VOX switched on.

Tribe does seem to be short on choice, most of the stuff you might want to adjust can't be done unless there's a hidden menu in there somewhere.
