Bit of debate ongoing at the mo concerning new tyre fittings, at RYDALES CARDIFF recently I was told by Crampie that they had invested in a new machine designed specifically for fitting tyres to GS rims without risk of damage to the wheel.

Presumably places like National Tyres wouldn't have access to such a machine - so would anyone care to comment? We are OK here in S Wales, tyre fitting at Rydales costs aren't significantly greater than going elsewhere so it seems BMW is the risk free option ...

Tyre fitter

Got lucky on this,as local freelance tyre fitter lives in the next street, took the wheel to him and he fitted a new Tourance to the rear with TLC,didn't balance it but I've had no problems,he took a fiver off me for the trouble:D he's moved up in the world now with his job-but is available to fit tyres for mates at a phonecall's notice. You've got my number if you're ever stuck;)

all tyre fitters i know have machines for fitting bike tyres with no damage.

Natioan Tyres Barnsley

These guys have never damaged a wheel yet any of my bikes, yes they do have a machine that breakes the bead but its not special for GS's, thing is the GS isn't special either lots of other bikes particularly off roaders have ally spoked wheels and Tourances are fitted to lots of other bikes too, they are careful though and are thorogh when balancing.

I second that...Stuart treats your wheels as if they were his own.

National at Brecon damaged my rear wheel when fitting a new tyre (there regular bike fitter was not there so the supervisor did it and ferked up with the bead breaker).

They bought me a new wheel though. I have kept the original and as it has only cosmetic damage continue to use it.

Rydales supplied the new wheel.

Tyre fitters I can recommend are: Five Acres near Coleford (used seveal time, including a few puncture rpairs), TyreSales in Gloucester (ditto), Haines in Cinderford (recommended by a mate) and I've used Witney Tyres too (although not the GS)

Considering the number of bikes in S Wales there does seem to be few tyre dealers with specialist bike depts.

Tyre fitting machines having used a few
of them In my time most of them are designed the same
but you do have different attachments for Motorcycle wheels
its like any job its the skill of the fitter that counts

from truck tyres (super singles) to boy racer wheels to
split rims to motorcycle tyres

get to find a good fitter with the right gear

now who wants there tyres fitted :D

National Tyres, Penarth Road, CARDIFF

OK so I've played Devil's Advocate a bit here, regardless of Rydale's purchase I've had 2 punctures repaired (front and back) at NT, there'a a young lad there who really knows his stuff, both wheels totally unmarked.

I had to get them off the bike tho:confused:

Interesting to hear other points of view.
