Police Scotland are having an amnesty for owners of air-guns - to hand them in............

How the fuck do you have an "amnesty" ahead of it becoming an offence to own an unlicensed airgun??

(No-one has actually figured out how to license them yet - and the deadline is only 7months away )

and if a load of people hand airguns in to a police station outwith the "amnesty" period - what happens then? Are the polis likely to say "sorry we can't accept it - can you take it to the recycle centre"

Apparently - It's not really an amnesty.

And - you can in effect, hand the "air-weapon" (they have demonised the "airgun" by calling it an "air-weapon") in to any police station at any time up to the introduction of the "law".

I'd recommend dismantling the "weapon" and throwing a part or two in the bin every week............

They are now showing a vid - of how to package it for delivery to the local polis shop............

They recommend placing in a case or wrapping in black plastic bin-bag.

I wouldn't recommend wrapping it in brown paper - in case it is mistaken for a table-leg..........

(does a pea-shooter qualify as an "air-weapon"?)

Well if the Scots do it the f*ckers down here will no doubt follow suit, time to upgrade the air rifles to a section 1 (nice little .22 rifle with silencer) and might as well get a shotgun certificate at the same time, perfect for sorting out any rats and rabbits .

Sad thing is that everything that is bad about airgun misuse was illegal anyway. There was no need for additional legislation. This was no more than a piece of posturing by the SNP....particularly the failure Macaskill... to try to create difference between Westminster and Holyrood. They even ignored their own consultation to push it through..... including the police. Wankers.

For clarity fact is based on something I once herd about 40 years ago so it might be bollox

ALL air weapons come under The Firearms Act. Those under 12 ft/lb do not require licensing....unless you live in Scotland...

Already had to give up my proper guns and I'm buggered if I'm going through all that again for anything less than a Shotgun which I will now start to look into.

Took my old webley .22 rifle in today after taking it out of the hard case and removing the telescope sights and moderator. Bought it for shooting at Rats in Norfolk when we kept chickens but the bloody chickens kept getting in the way (maybe the rats were putting operation poultry shield into play). Haven't seen a rat since we stopped keeping chickens and certainly not here on the edge of the farmyard in Scotland

You'd have thought somebody walking into the police station with an uncased air rifle would have caused more of a kerfuffle but I might as well have been buying stamps!

The old training kicked in and I broke the gun and showed it to the desk bod to prove it was clear - I got a look from the wifey as if to enquire how the hell I was going to get it through the hatch in that state
