Now i know before i even start there is going to be loads of banter and ridicule regarding build quality etc of the 1200's but has anybody else had this problem.
Ive got a 2010 GSA, 30th anniversary model which i collected on the 10th August, it now has 1700 odd miles on the clock and has been reguarly cleaned and pampered as well as ridden.
On cleaning the bike today i have noticed that the paint on the centre stand crossbar has dissapeared, it appears to have been worn off by road dirt and grime and is already down to the metal.

I will be contacting the dealer on Tuesday when they next open as i dont think that this is acceptable quality but what does everyone else think?

I had the centrestand replaced under warranty for the same reason. Once I got it home with the new one on I wrapped the crossbar in black 1" pvc tape.
This was a few years ago - the tape has lasted longer than the paint.

:D

Thanks for the reminder. Mine's due for replacement.

Must paint it properly before it gets fitted.

Mine is exactly the same, you can see the paint is angstrom thick..

Mine is under warranty but I can't see the point of taking it back as the new one will just do the same. Will just powder coat it in due course. Other than the barrels dulling the rest of the bike has a very high std of finish so I am not too bothered.

I wrapped the cross bar with helicopter tape, which I use on my mountain bikes for stone chip protection :thumb

rubber coated centre stand

Removed mine & had it refinished which looked good for a while but eventually it started to look tatty again.
A bicycle inner-tube is now wrapped around it with a couple of cable ties holding it on, job done.

poundland have clear sticky film for a squid - reckon i will try some of that on the centre stand as the paint on my one year old bike has also gone

BMW no longer replacing centre stands due to corrosion.

Can anyone tell me the name of that tough, black aerosol paint? Yellow and black tin. Will do a home respray in the spring.

Had mine replaced last week under warranty, doesnt look much better, paint seems nearly translucent! so ill probably be buying some PJ1 myself come spring:blast

PJ1 COATINGS FASTBLACK is the stuff you want but wear a mask when spraying it.:thumb2

Thank you kindly.

Lucky you. Lind reckon that it'll be declined on mine. What mileage and what dealer in your case. Would re-paint a new one in any case but would be less hassle than cleaning down the old one.

Now at 3000 miles, but reported at 600 mile, dealer is Clarkes in Brum:thumb
