Hi chaps after my bean can gave up I took the plunge and replaced it with the Emerald Isle unit and ignition.
The bike ran super nice for a week Or two I started it today and it's a bag of nails nothing is loose the coil is brown dyna with new leads .
Have any of you chaps had issues with this motor works replacement kit?

I replaced the the ignition unit with the old one and it ran much better looks like the chief culprit

I did the same upgrade last year when my bean can fianlly gave up. No problems so far.

The old ignition control unit wont give you any advance (the new unit advances electronically as opposed to bob weights which are not part of the new bean can) but I suspect you knew that already.....

Yep but bizarrely it still ran better ,I had the carbs off nothing wrong there either so I will give motorworks a ring on Monday and see if I can get a swap

Hi, I upgraded to the motorworks bean can and icu, the first one packed up after 200 miles but not to the symptoms you describe..mine would start but as soon as you brought the throttle on it would die straight away. On putting back an original non points bean can and icu all was well.
They replaced with a new set and all has been well ever since however the new icu had a different degree of advance stamped on to the unit which was apparently the issue.
My advice is to ask them to check their stock and compare the degree marks on yours to what they have boxed up.
Could be also worth checking the earth wire that sits behind the icu or coil to the frame, give it and frame a good clean to get a good earth. :thumb2

All the best, let us know how you get on..
Steve

Thanks Steve ,mine was misfiring badly more on the right hand side ,I will have a good look at the coil wires today, and see how I get on mine is the 26 degree icu,it worked beautifully for maybe 150 miles or so .
Regards Chris

Well motorworks were rather unseen to send me a new unit ,saying it was more then likely my wireing being old.
I explained that the bike had a complete rewrite so I don't think that's the issue and it runs with the old bean can looks like they will send me one now fingers crossed this one keeps working I'm sure it's unusual for this kit to be faulty but not impossible
