Positioning of tax disc holder

+1
They are all twats.. sorry tossers, yes it is a problem where to mount it on a GS BMW did not design it in for the uk ...all ok in Germany because Number plates are be bought which are valid all year round or between 2 to 11 months within any 12 months. Showing the road tax. This allows to save money on vehicle usually driven in particular part of the year, eg. motorbikes. So it all on the number plate. Not a lot of tossers know this, cos they are all off road god's.
However it is differcult to mount a tax disc on a uk GS .. stick it on the screen! :aidan
Hope this helps

Thanks lads, i have owned various bikes all my life (Long Time) and joined various forums, but have NEVER been flamed so much as here!

I thank all those who have given (Sensible) advice and will ignore the so called '' Purists''

This is the place to come to be flamed.

A UKGSer meet is also the place to be treated like a long - lost brother/sister.

Hope to see you at one... being a an ex-miner your skin'll be thick enough for a bit of pish-taking on the forum?

Picked my GSTB up on Saturday and i noticed the holder was fitted to the LH Rocker cover
Where do you place yours ?

i keep mine bolted on in one of the tube holders you can get just below the top of the left hand pannier mounts, its well hidden out of the way but just about visible for the fuzz to see, ill put up a pic tomorrow

It ain't flaming....it's robust affection :thumb2

(Unless it's Skygod, in which case, it's 'man-love', but that's a whole other story :D)

Take it on the chin, rise above it and if you can, get if you can get your knuckles off the ground* you may even be able to raise yourself out of the 1200 section and join the proper people on the rest of the site :thumb

*EDIT: sorry, I see you're Welsh, so you wont be able to do that bit.

Never mind :comfort

Just goes to show that most of the tossers on here are more likely to respond when they can give a good slagging.

Some on here are quite pitifull really.

If you dont like a thread ignore it.

Yeah....four

A reply from a 1200 owner that makes no suggestion where or how the OP hangs his tax disk holder.

The problem (if there is one) is not so much the piss taking replies and / or lame excuses that a bike is designed in Germany so they forget to put somewhere to add a tax disk holder.... it is the incredible lack of imagination shown in this and similar threads.

Look at the bike.

Look at the tax disk holder.

Is it OK where it is? If yes, leave it there. If no, start to think imaginatively.

Take the tax disk holder off, hold it in your hands, offer it up to other places on the bike.

Does it look OK? Is it likely to fall off? Is it likely to foul anything?

No? Excellent. Mount it there.

Yes? OK, no problem, look somewhere else. Still can't find anything? OK, go back to where it first was and re-mount it.

Time taken? About ten minutes*.

Failing any of that. The 1200GS is amongst the most popular bikes on the UK's roads. Agreed? Good.

Look at a few parked up in the bays, in car parks or even in the pictures of the glossy magazines. Where do the tax disks sit? Do any of those look like bright ideas? Whilst looking, have other owners made any modifications that look quite good? If so, consider doing the same.

It's called self-reliance, not running off to nanny for help to tie your shoe laces. It's learned in the nursery. Once you start big school though, you meet big boys who might not have quite the same comforting bosom as nanny.

I made no reply because I really dont know, and I certainly dont know the actual law anymore.....but I could have googled it, where I live we carry them with us in our wallets.

But I would hope that anybody that bought a 1200 would be able to work out where to put a fekkin tax disc.

I think the thread is totally daft, but I see no point in taking the piss, just ignor the poor fekker.

The original post mentioned nothing about wanting to know if there was an alternative position for the tax disc. The OP just pointed out where his was on his new bike and asked where it's fitted on other bikes. People have assumed he is asking for advice as to where to mount it but he didn't actually ask that.

Not legal to the absolute letter of the law, but on my twin cam I put it here.

Mike

Spot on.........! That's exactly where I put mine:thumb

I don't think it's a stupid question either as some folks seeem to stick their tax discs in the most ridiculous places and they get broken off or wet if you don't wrap them in clingfilm.

I was looking at Mrs P's G650GS when we picked it up from the dealer and some A-Hole had stuck her tax disc at the arse end of the swing arm next to the chain adjuster.:blast

Soon be five pages:thumb

FP.

There are some proper TOOLS in this web site, too many to pick out just one. I am sorry if the guy who started this post asked something that you tossers think is so stupid to require ridicule.

There are no stupid questions only stupid answers.

This thread proves this in spades. It seems some people don’t have enough in their lives if all they can do is making smart arsed comments.
I would like to ask people like WAPPING, why are you on this site? I hope you have never asked a question, surly YOU are so self reliant not to require any help of any kind. Wouldn’t it be easier to answer the question and be generous with the accumulated knowledge of the assembled BWM owners.

I am new to the whole BMW thing and may be asking some STUPID questions. I will be asking to increase my knowledge. I may have some thoughts on a particular subject but it never hurts to ask for advice from people with more experience (well it dose on this site).

No wonder other bikers generally perceive GS riders as tossers.

My rule is, I don’t say anything on the internet to anybody I wouldn’t say to their face.

The tax disc should be forward of the swinging arm pivot and on the nearside
Valley Boy if you feel the need to ask questions dont be put off by the piss takers.

Un-f*cking-believable........:blast

Blimey.

A thread that is therefore even more pointless and non-technical than most respondents imagined, even in their wildest dreams, if he really didn't want to move the damned thing.

Most had assumed (always dangerous and the mother of all fuck-ups) that the bod might / must want to position it elsewhere, not just collate a sample list of possible alternative mounting points just for the sake of it. A sort of GSer version of train-spotting if you like. What was he going to do with the carefully garnered knowledge if not use it to possibly move the tax disk holder... one can only wonder? Answers on a postcard, please.

If it helps, mine was mounted on the inside of the nearside pot on my vanilla GS, then my GSA and on my HP2 Sport. No, my foot did not catch it when changing gear nor did it fall off... That the tax disk itself was permanently out of date is another matter entirely.

Sorry, I do not have any pictures to hand but will definitely take one next time I am on my way to the root vegetable shop if that helps.
