If I get the CAT ( not the furry kind) taken out of my OEM headers,would that be the same as buying a set of decat headers , i.e. same result ?

My understanding is yes.

It's not in the headers though, it's in the fat collector box under the engine. There's a thread or two on here by peeps that have done the same.

Some would argue it's not quite as good because the fat empty can left behind isn't optimal but nobody would argue it isn't at least close. It's a he'll of a lot cheaper as well.
