Possible to install mapsource on second PC

Has anyone tried installing mapsource on a second PC, Im a bit scared to try because I did this once with ant-virus software and both PC’s stopped working as soon as I entered the unlock key. I know I could unplug the internet but I can't be sure it will never be on when the software is running.

I want to load the speed camera database but it will not install on my laptop so want to try it on the kids PC.

That's how I understood it too. I'm hoping to keep 1 version of Mapsource on the work computer, and load another version on the laptop, for use at home.

Also, nothing stops you from entering the unlock codes for your friends GPS units on your PC. Any number of unlock codes (=GPS units) can be entered to a PC.

A consequence is that you can bring your CD's when you travel an install MapSource including your unlock code on the hotel PC. This will make it possible for you to change maps or routes on your GPS while out traveling.

Forgive my stupidity, but what we're saying here is that the mapping software is in real terms, not a licensing factor, but actually it's the GPSR hardware that we associate with the mapping software that is our limit... that is, we can only use 1 GPSR with any one mapping software unlock code? But we can install said mapping software with that same unlock code on limitless number of machines, to use our single GPSR with? The GPSR is tied to the unlock code, not the Mapsource program to number of installs?

Answer to your question is yes but I don’t think anyone here is commenting on the legality of having more than one install of mapsource. The fact that it lets you have more than one instance of mapsource on more than one PC doesn’t mean its legal.

Having said that it does seem that the software is licensed to the GPS and not the computer.

It is legal OK.

The map license is a single USER license. You are not alowed to share it with another PERSON but you are free to use it on TWO navigators and ANY NUMBER of PC's.

Yes, what you have interpreted above is correct. The unlock code relates to a specific GPSR (via the serial number of that GPSR).

Although you can install the cartography on any number of personal computers, you won't be able to see the street level detail of the maps on a PC unless you have an unlock code (intended for a GPSR) installed on that PC. This suggests that there is some concern on Navteq's part that the cartography not be freely distributed to many different people for use on multiple PCs.

I'm not qualified to interpret legal wording on software licence agreements, but the way I look at it is this: As long as you are the only person using the cartography, you can install it on as many of your own PC's as you wish, and still remain within the spirit of the licencing agreement. On the other hand, if you bought the cartography, and installed it (and one GPSR unlock code) on the PC at the local public library, you would probably be contravening the intent of the licence agreement, even though you only installed it on one computer.
