I knocked my GSA off its side stand and the screen hit a low fence. It bent the rear screen hoop and finally did for my already cracked screen.

I fitted a used Wunderlich screen but noticed it sat to the right. Not much but annoying and the LHS spoiler tab rubbed on the back of the screen. It looked like the front screen hoop was also bent.

I stripped the front and sure enough, the front hoop was out by about 3mm. not being too much I have pulled it straight. But the screen is still sitting a bit to the right so it looks like the screen/beak subframe is also bent.

Does anyone know the best way to re-align one of these front subframes? There is not much to measure against so its hard to know what should be where.

Take the bike to a local engineers with £40 and they will fix it, I don't use money I jsut take 8 x Larger or bitters.

I don't know either any architect or engineer (fabricator not planner) who couldn't look at the front of the bike place the screen up against it and not be able to say where the problem lies to get it straight again, the bastards all think in 3D with Micrometers and angles thrown in to the mix.

------------------------------------

When I had my GPS holder nicked off my bike on the German/Polish border I rode up to a Fabrication place, walked in and asked to use a bit of metal and their bending kit, measured everything up twice and then I put a couple of 90 degree bends in place and drilled a hole in the top to press the switch another in the back to mount it directly to my dash.

So this guys been watching me and when I come to mount my quick n dirty master piece, he gives me the biggest shit eating grin I've ever seen and gives me a shiney anti-vibration version of what I just put together in 20 mintues. So I look at it and think yeah like that's going to fit, like this gumps even thought it out but low and behold the bloody thing not only fits the GPS it fixes right to the bikes dash and with a quick twist looks like part of the bike when I've not got the gps in it. I rode to the nearest shops using my new GPS unit got beer and returned.

Moral of the story is ENGINEERS RULE DUDE so go and see one !!!

I take the point on something you can easily see like the aluminium screen frame. That is symmetrical but with four subtle bends def needs measuring with proper kit. DIY is only guesswork and without the right amount of heat will could easily crack the alloy material.

But, I'm up to some 3D thinking and tube bending. Probably why the (not quite straight) screen annoys me so much. I made some minimalist side case racks for my last bike to tuck everything in close. It lasted 4 years before I sold the bike.

But the 1200 GS front beak frame is so complex I defy anyone to know when its straight as there is nothing to work from. This why I asked if anyone has managed to successfully straighten one (or two), I might be able to learn from any mistakes they made along the way.
