Powder Coating Frame Recomendations

Looking for any recomendations on somewhere in the north west to have my rear frame on my GS Rallye matched to the front (black to blue).

I would want the paint shop to dismantle and refit too if possible, being the lazy type...

Any actual experiences with long term experience of a good place?

Is the blue frame of the GS powder coated in the first place? (just thinking for colour match purposes) I know the black frames are not. I had my main frame and sub frame powder coated black to combat any future corrosion issues with the poor BMW paint finish.

I've had various bits coated in the Midlands and South over the years and no powder coating company I've seen is set up to strip bikes. I think you'd have to get a bike mech to do it prior to coating.

Actually I’m unsure of the finish (is that the right term?).

Fair enough. If the painter comes recommended, but will not strip down the bike, I could organise this.

The paint on your bike is water based paint and sprayed on. You don't need to have rest of frame powder coated unless that's what you want. Standard paint would be fine and less cost

It could be prept using 3m ultra fine grey scotch brite pads and painted over, this what I would do as the original BMW primer should be a very good quality etching primer that's well worth leaving on.

Pads will be less than a tenner from eBay for a pack, but if you pop down to a body shop you might beg a pad for nowt, you'll probably only need just the one.

Would like to see it when finished.. I'm thinking a pretty big job, everything off..
If used a new frame the numbers wouldn't match & im thinking maybe invalidate the warranty unless stripped/rebuild by Bmw dealer..

The paint on the bike is not the best. Several areas on the bikes were never even primered at the factory ! The centre stand is a good example of a bad paint job with no primer and no lacquer over the black. If you are planning to strip the bike down to enable the frame to be painted properly, then I would suggest you remove all the original paint first and get to base metal. Then start the new process with a good primer followed by base coat and lacquer. Then the bike paint will last for years. Hope that helps

BMW missed a real opportunity with the Rallye when they didn't paint the rear sub-frame, main stand and side stand blue

And while they were at it they should've done the fork tubes and brake calipers in black
