I've stripped all the flaking paint on my GSA rear footrest hangers ... If I have them powder coated will it create issues with the clearance for the actual footrest as it slides in between the plates?

Never had anything done before so not sure how much thickness it adds

Even if it does just sand the inside where you wont see it :)

From memory (don't have rear footpegs on mine) its not exactly a tight fit. Just ask them to go easy on the powder coat in that area.

Bryn,

How much clearance is there now?

If its tight now then it will give problems.

Are your footpegs the ones with the Ally BM Panniers or are they the big rubber jobbies?

They're the ones for the ally panniers... seems quite a snug fit already ;)

It was a long time ago, but when I last saw this process, I believed that the powder is sprayed out of the gun and is electrostatically attracted to the item being sprayed. So I would ahve thought that all the sprayer can do is to control the general overall thickness, not control it in small areas?

I may be out of date on this?

When i used to have frames powder coated i'd mask off the areas where the bearings would need to be fitted . Tape/mask the inside section where the footpeg locates.

Like Steppers says, I'm sure if you contact the company they'll recommend a suitable masking method / product.

The only time I've ever had a frame powder coated they protected bearing recesses and internal threads etc using silicone plugs (I know this because they forgot to take them out and sent them to me with the frame ;) ). Not sure how you'd do that with your peg mounts though...

Bryn,

Go and see A&R surface finishers and take the parts along with you, tell them what you want and they'll mask it and sort it out for you. Ask for the matt finish powder it matches your BMW paint perfectly.

Thanks for all the input folks :beerjug:

I've popped into Leicester Enamellers in Narborough today and asked them the question.. they said they do loads of bike bits and its never been a problem, but they can do an extra thin coat inside the brackets so to speak... they were doing a job with satin black today, so took them off me , with collection being tomorrow morning... total cost for the pair £10 :)

I'll see how they look and report back :thumb

Just picked them up :thumb

They are moving addresses in the next month...
