I have replaces my older 660 with a Garmin XT. I use the same power connector socket (standard GS one) that used for 660.
When I switch off the bike old 660 used to power down after usual 60 seconds. The new XT stays on and bike still stays "live" till I remove or switch off the XT. I guess not really a problem as i usually remove GPS when I stop. Had a look through the XT menu nothing I can see. As only a 2 wire installation on the XT, its bluetooth two helmets etc. Just concerned I have missed something on installation. Thanks

The XT should power off within a minute or two of the ignition being turned of.

Make sure the contacts are all clean.

Make sure that you haven’t set the XT to permanently on.

unless the XT is somehow convincing the power controller to keep the accessory socket live (like a canbus battery charger)

Question for the OP: does the XT still show the battery charging icon on its display after the ECU has turned off all of the bike's other circuits?

My XT powers off on my RT (using the Nav prep power supply) and my R100 as expected. Although it is only going into standby. To actually switch it off, you need to remove it and power off manually, the same as the Navs

Shouldn’t need to remove it as you can reach the power button in the rear whilst it’s on the mount

As wessie says.
Also, if you put it on max backlight when powered, and then remove the power, the screen should dim a tiny bit as well.

XT would tell you "external power lost" and ask you if you want to keep it alive or let it switch off after a minute or so (useful when fueling, etc.)
What model GS is this?

Thanks all. The XT stays live once ignition off as mentioned just like a battery charger is added to Aux socket. As I say it is plugged into the correct factory plug just as old 660 was and that used say "power lost do you want to switch off" Will have another look but only 2 wires to connect so:unsure:

Did you miss the "RT" bit, if it is in the housing on the RT, you can't reach the button, the same for the Navs. So forget "remove" but remember it is still in standby unless you physically switch it off - does that work?

Very odd, it should be running from a switched live.

Being an XT I wouldn’t discount the option of a software bug that prevents it to acknowledge power loss while running at full juice until the battery dies.

It’s a Garmin after all :D
