Hi does anybody use or know of a camera that can be powered directly from the bike, fits to engine bars and is reasonably priced.
Many thanks in advance!

most small cameras can be powered from a usb type connector the gopro 3 can do that around £250

just to try things out I bought the small MUVI camera from amazon, it wont work whilst on charge but lasts ages and you can buy bar clamps for silly money (cheap), you can also get other mounts and straps etc

the camera it self comes with a clip to go on clothing and was about £25 with a small SD card, picture quality is good when mounted on my jacket, not sure how it would be on engine bars, if I get a clamp will probably go for handlebars option

to plug a go pro in you would need to either run it outside of its casing or cut a hole in the side of the casing

Drift HD will run all day or until the card is full from a 12v to USB charger but wont charge the battery if recording or in standby so best to start the day with a full battery then if the UBS cable is pulled out by accident it will carry on recording from the battery.

My drift hd charges whilst recording, it also has a car mode so when recording will continue to overwrite the sd card with new stuff. Great for insurance ect.

Must be a newer model than mine I have the Drift HD 1080 how things just get better :D

Just Dremel a hole and seal the cable with blue tack. If it is in torrential rain it may mist up but otherwise does fine. Did 5.000 miles with one like that last year.

Garmin virb can be ran while powered and is easy to do so. I just bought one for that reason and it's also mounted on front engine bars. I'm very impressed with it.

Depends what bike your powering it from, most run from USB, but if you have GS or GSA chances are powering from the bike will put noise onto the video, it has on the last three bikes Ii have had.

I use Drift HD and HD Ghost, but I use a phone charger battery pack rather than power from the bike, about £15.00 from ebay will run a Ghost for 5 full days without recharging, if its bike mounted I put the pack, no bigger than a mobile phone, in a handlebar bag, and if helmet mounted in my jacket top pocket.

Why do you want it powered?

I'd be inclined to use a standard battery powered camera, get some spare batteries, and a 12V charger mounted on the bike. That way you are keeping your options open to any camera, and you dont have any modifications to do. Plus you won't have an annoying lead or any risk of electrical interference on your movies. This is a much better solution.

Dr Bob owns the truck! I followed them up to a hotrod meet. I don't own one but enjoy anything petrol powered!
