All,

Just been outside measuring up where the 2610 will be mounted :D I've got to get power to it so am considering getting one of the gpsw bare ended 2610 power cables ... but there looks like there's a spare ancillary power socket unconnected by the front power socket (on my 1150GSA). Is it really a power socket? :nenau and can I use this rather than running the cable to the battery? :idea

... and if so - anybody know where and how much a plug would be? Presummably cheaper and a more neating solution than having a full ancillary socket and bmw plug bouncing around under there?

J

... and yes I read all the posts on wiring up the 2610 and couldn't find anything on that connector.

ive just run a garmin power cable straight from the batt, to my 2720 under and behind the dash, was simple and tidy :thumb

I did exactly the same - make sure you can get to the fuse after you refit the tank - you never know...

Yes. That is where the BMW Navigator connects.

Well ...

.. if it's good enough for the BMW Navigator - it's good enough for my 2610 :thumb

That - and I'm too chicked to go routing around under the tank with bare cables :hide

Thanks for confirming it's a power socket - anyone know what connector I need? :nenau

Do all GSA's have them, anyone know? I've just looked on my 05 one and I can't see anything other than the ancillary output in the usual place. Not that I know what I'm looking for mind you.

Rich,

The beak mounted Aux socket has a lead coming from it for the BMW Nav power lead to plug in to.

This is an additional power socket image but it's the same....

4 is the plug that connects to the Aux socket. Two connectors leading off, one is the connection for the Aux socket to the main loom, the other is for the Nav power lead.

I'll have a play later this week. Is your sat nav a Navigator and therefore came with the correct power lead socket or did you find a socket from somewhere else or simply cut and connect the wires?

Rich,

Mine's a BMW NAV so the correct lead is in the kit (they will not sell it separately). Once you see the socket you'll see that it's a fairly stock connector. I reckon you should be able to find either the opposite connector from a supplier or just hack it off and use a couple of insulated spade connectors.

motorrad concepts do the lead with a bmw plug already fitted

Direct to Battery is my Vote

My GSA is for LD and rally events, so I need to have the GPS on when the bike is off (trips to the sandbox, lunch, etc) (to maintain calculation of averages and elapsed time). Power draw is minimal, so no worries unless you leave the GPS on overnight.

If you don't care about this, then you can use switched power instead. I would avoid using a powerlet / plug type source as they can have momentary loss of connection sufficient to throw the GPS calcs waaay off. Ask me how I know.

Thanks julio100......

Just to clarify we manufacture complete GPS/Baehr power cables complete with the white BMW type connector that plugs into the loom socket near the headstock of most current & recent past BMW bikes or with the piggy back connector (both types) that goes into the back of any BMW auxilliary power socket, leaving the socket itself free for other use.

In either case the power is switched via the ignition and on CanBus equipped bikes this auxilliary power source is protected up to 5amps without need for a fuse.

None of these items is available on our website until the new one if online later this month but if you contact us we can tell you more......0131 663 1012 or [email protected]

Cheers
