I've read with interest the claims for massive mileages with masses of grip from the PR3/4's.
However, on my last GS on 3's I only ever managed up to 4000 miles.

I've now tried the 4's on my GSA.

PR4's: Cost £255, 2400 miles to bald (with pillion and 3 boxes loaded to the gunnels).

Anakee 3's: Cost £201, 3400 miles to bald (as above).

The 4's did feel better when changing direction, but with no problems with the grip from either tyre, it will be Anakee's in future.

Out.

That's quite poor  I'm approaching 6k and rear Anekees although starting to square off should give at least 8k to 10k on my Adv LC.

I use ear plugs so have never had an issue with noise. I will replace with Anekkee's again especially if I'm getting 8 to 10k from a rear :thumb2

No pillion and light luggage so maybe not the best comparison but 3k to bald seems excessive

Sounds like you ride like me I can't get any decent mileage out of my tyres, I have PR 4 at the moment and they are looking to be going off quicker than the Anakee,s did
I am going to try the continentals next but to be fair I enjoy riding hard and fast it's why I have a bike. So for me grip is more important than mileage but all the same another 1000 odd miles would be nice.
PS I've done 9000 miles in 6 months so far.

Think you need RP4 'Trial' at the front and RP4 'GT' at the back.

Just had my Conti Trail Attack 2,s replaced with the same again. BMW loan bike had Anakee 3 gripped ok but really noisy, much better with the Contis and much better wear than you report. The 2's seem a massive improvement over the originals.m

4000 miles on these sorts of tyre?

I ride quickly and with Tourance Next and Exp still got nigh on 5000 miles- would have done more too- so probably 6000+

Got 3500 from Pirelli Corsa Diablo Rossos ( nearly a true track day tyre ) on an S1000R with 160 bhp - including 4 track days!!

Tyre pressures methinks- the more weight- the more pressure needed. A fulled loaded adv will require at least 42 in the back.

I ride with 32/36 on S1000R and 32/36 on adventure WC. This is with no luggage, just me at 12 stone.

Same here on PR4's - although I ride an 1150. Rear lasted under 2500 miles - although a lot of that was two up, loaded, on grippy Scottish roads ( mostly in the sunshine:))

I now use a PR4 front which seems to be lasting OK and a PR2 on the rear which seems to last better than the PR3 or PR4. PR4 rear was unmovable in the wet despite trying very hard - toe down in the wet, 2 up with luggage:thumby:

It has been suggested that my poor tyre wear may be symptomatic of suspension wear. A shock rebuild is planned - could be worth getting your shocks checked out but I wouldn't imagine a WC would have that many miles yet?!

I have a 13reg with Tourance next , it's covered about
6400 miles (5000 of that with three loaded boxes [and
One person])
And looks about half way down, or to put it another way
Will do next year as well.

Couldn't fault the MPR4's on my Multistrada 1200 Sport T. Got 8500 out of the rear and that was mostly 2 up with a few (3 bag+pillion) tours. I make 'best progress' in line with road conditions and weather and will see what the LC does on it's standard fitments. At least the replacements will be cheaper than the Mutley's large rim jobs!

Must be the extra weight your running with.

I have covered 8000 miles in 4 months of owning my GSA LC, still on the factory fitted Anakee 3's. Had them spinning up offered, but general use is the commute of 60 miles motorway & 20 miles twisties each way. I don't carry any luggage except laptop in backpack.

Sorry to hear yours are going off so quick when fully loaded, I'll remember that when I load up with my M-Mules!

Let us know if you find something else with a good grip/longevity compromise.....although I doubt many of us would compromise too much on grip.

Ive managed to get 5,000 out of my rear PR4 so not worth the extra cost of them in my opinion. My GSA is getting a set of the new Conti TKC 70 in the morning,

I've run PR3 and now PR4 on my Super Tenere. They seem to last to my expectations, 2 rears to one front, and on a par with the Battlewings the bike was supplied with. Front lasted around 12,000 miles with the rears half that and that was changing both rears with some decent tread left due to a long trip. This is the Trail compound.

I wonder if you are using the correct pressures with the extra load. Standard is 32 front, 36 rear. I'd go up to 36 front and 42 rear with a pillion & luggage. If you don't increase the pressure the tyre will run hotter leading to more wear. and increased fuel consumption.

From memory, I think that on the WC the handbook states 36 and 42 as standard pressures with no variations for varying loads, which I always thought was a bit odd.

Interesting thread. Iv decided to go for the PR4s with the GT version on the rear. But having a bit of trouble finding the PR4 for the front in the size needed. The back was easy and £111. from Tyreleader.

Anyone bought any recently?

I've got/had Annakees that came as new. 6400 miles in, the rear is now squared off, (too much M4) the front would do another 1500/2k maybe, the rear another 500 1k max i reckon, but not really the time of year to find out!.

Getting TCK 70's on Wednesday.

Should be interesting.

In this months Ride mag there's an interesting article on adventure bike tyres. It appears Avon are bringing out a new dual compound tyre next year.

GT ?

Frustrated.

It seems that you can only get PR4s in a 19inch rim in the Trail version.

If thats the case are those using PR4s using the Trail version on the front and the GT version on the rear?

Trail on both ends on a Super Tenere, as recommended by Michelin which meets my approval after 13,000 miles. Of course, the S10 has a 19" front.
