German mag MOTORRAD had an interesting comparison in it's latest issue ; R1250R vs R1250GS-ADV
Despite being 40 kg heavier and running slightly smaller tires and a 19 instead of 17" front-wheel the GS-ADV was faster on the handling pacours with equally fast and slow sections than the R1250R...:thumb2
1.47,7 vs 1.48,4 In a straight line the R was faster;After 400 meters the R reached 194km/h vs 183km/h for the GS-ADV.
A 20 kg lighter 2019/20 GS-HP or now 2021 GS-Rallye with ADV "sports" suspension would have been even faster...:thumb
The T-L gives better handling and keeps the bike stable no matter how bad the road surface gets.Handles as easy as a bicycle...Magic compared the old tech-forks.Not that we already knew that...
You can only imagine what a M1300GS as light as R1250R , with 17" wheels and 160 hp could do...:thumby:
Praise the Telelever...:bow

Good point , but the 1250 R is shite anyway ,pushed one the other day and the guy was all over the place trying to get it to flow thro the bends . We swapped , he found the same as i struggled to get it to go round the bends and he was pushing me on my GS !!, another one who now wont give me GS back , he is selling the R now .......but i did tell him before he got it.

That is the reason I sold my totally tricked out R Nine T...With HP forged wheels and full Ohlins suspension my 2012 Telelever R1200R handled better thanks to Telelever.
Telelever overcomes the penalty of 40 kilos and a heavier 19" wheel in case of the GS-ADV vs R...:thumby:
B.t.w. on the same dyno the 1250GS made 136hp and 140nm the KTM 1290 SuperADV made 155hp and 133nm.
If the M1300GS gets a real 160hp (+24hp) and lets say an additional 10nm for 150NM as also slightly less weight and 17" wheels this bike will kill anything you encounter on the streets...:thumb2 Should be even a formidable weapon for the track when only long straights will be it's kryptonite.
Can't wait to get sweaty paws on it...:D

Perhaps the R didn't have the benefit of a set of CTA3s with 15,000 miles on them...

I followed two R1200Rs on my 1200GS LC (nice new R5 tyres) down the High Street, from Caistor to Baumber on Tuesday - one of the more “progressive” roads in the UK.

If they were suffering from handling challenges, I must be an even worse rider than I thought.

That road looks like a motorway , would not say challenging, more like a police watched road ..
