I rode my 800 in the rough and loose in Morocco mainly in first second and third gear ...fourth when I was feeling brave on gravel. Even then I was averaging above 65. I say there is something wrong either with the computer or the fuel injection......or the tyre pressure
I'm running factory and Michelin recommended pressures - they seem a little low but what do I know? Given everyone seems to agree that less than 60 mpg is like failing to pull in a brothel then I probably have a slightly sickly motor. I shall report back chaps...
Could well be, one went at 12,000 miles and another at 24,000 miles on the 800 I used to own I used to average 60 mpg (uk) and both times it dropped to low 50`s and felt like it was running rich.
Hmm. Interesting development; I filled up with super unleaded this evening and it's like a different bike. Smoother running, less jerky at low revs and fuel economy has suddenly shot up to 65mpg. Same journey, same riding style. Are these bikes very sensitive to fuel types?
My 2013,
5000 miler is just the same as yours. It really is a different bike with super plus in it.
I've put my 58mpg down to the OE Anakee2 tyres the bike came on, they sound like a tractor tyre when on smooth tarmac so I know they do drag some what ! The bikes fully serviced, clean air filter, no sticking brakes and the chain is super slick with a Scottoiler running on it.
I've a set of new tyres ready to go on but these Michelin's seem to be lasting longer than I thought

Slight anti climax but today's 24k service at Wollaston (excellent btw) revealed nothing wrong with fuelling. I was advised that mid 50s fuel consumption was pretty normal. That I'm getting much higher with super unleaded is a bonus. I am glad I took out an insured warranty - head bearings and front wheel bearings needed replacing so got paid for (after a £100 excess) which means it's more or less paid for itself. Result!
