As my other thread, I've just traded my 56 pate GS for a new 90 Anniversary TC. I have a set of nearly new Keihan Headers and the BMW badged Akra can. I've heard it said that these will fit the Twin Cam if I ditch the flappy valve malarkey. Has anyone done this? How do you actually loose the valve? Is it just a case of tucking it away somewhere or do you disconnect the cables from the servo?

Any problems with engine fault codes and any opinions on how it may affect warranty?

Ta

Yes you disconnect the cables from the servo , to be honest the stock exhaust on the TC is so good , I don/t feel the need for an after market can or full system . Try it for a while first :thumby:

To be honest, if I didn't already have the pipe and headers, i wouldn't consider it, but may as well make use of them. Any thoughts on warranty?

I'd imagine dumping the servo and hacking off the bowden cables , then fitting a 7 year old system would go down a treat if you had any engine issues , then tried a warranty claim :D

The system is nearly new but I do take your point!!!

If it looks too tricky, I'll just flog it.

Why not contact an exhaust specialist and have the y piece and can altered to keep the servo flap in the system.

Check the servo valve and pipe sizes. It might only need the header outlet stub and muffler inlet pipes cutting short. If the muffler pipe is swaged cut it off and get a sleeve to join it to the valve.

If it looks a bit more complicated fit the new (old) system with the flap valve tied up out of the way and take the bike to Andy at Xtreme Stainless HIxon near Stafford.

It's a perfect excuse for a ride across the Peak District and North Wales (not far away) is a good place to check out the bike with its flappy valve fitted. What's not to like. ;)

Its sounding a bit of a palaver

Think I'll just try and sell it on and maybe the proceeds will stretch to an Akra can designed for the Twin Cam

Anyone fancy a near mint Pre 2010 Akra and a near new set of Keihan Headers

I have a 90th Edition GSA and I've fitted the Akra for correct MY.
My advice would be the only advantage on the expensive Akra is its very light and easier to clean as its not so tight fitting around the pannier frames.

But the standard exhaust is probably louder. I personally would'nt even dream of 'bodging' the older exhaust onto her. If you did have an engine issue it could prove very expensive.:aidan

Is the can noticeably quieter? As I had a 90th Edition GSA for the day yesterday and the standard exhaust really pissed me off and was a deal breaker.. the dealer said the akra would be quieter but never trust the stealers as all they want is your dosh.

Ive got a 2012 TC GSA and have fitted the headers that I decatted and the Akro can that were on my 2009. I left the servo on still plugged in but removed the valve assy and cables. Easy peasy ! Now it sounds slightly quieter (which suits me) looks less cluttered without the cables etc and easier to clean and less weight to drag around. No difference in grunt either . Been in for a couple of services at the stealers since, without any funny looks or cautions from them !
