I seem to have delevoped a problem with my clutch (did a quick search found nothing)

Normal day to day use seems fine , which is ok

Today lots of motorway miles as i entered ther services after a few hours at 70  MPH the clutch just pulls with no pressure or action to dissengage:eek:

I have to clonk down the box and stall the bike, not the best of ideas I find netural and pump back up the pressure

So its leaking pressure at motorway speed or may need bleeding ?

Any one else had this ? Bike has recently been serviced at SBW for 12k so fluids replaced

Any answers appricated

Okay, so your bike was serviced recently for either £12K (expensive) or at 12K miles, at some place called SBW.

Now, is there sufficient hydraulic fluid within the clutch master cylinder?

Is there hydraulic fluid dripping from the clutch slave cyclinder? It's at the very rear end of the gearbox/clutch housing and in front of the rear shock absorber.

Are the banjo bolts fastened up tightly on both the master and slave cylinders?

Have you spoken to your service geezers and told them of your problem?

This is where I'd start and it'll take no time at all. :thumb

Okay,

I had similar symptoms earlier this year which very quickly (about 30 gear shifts) became a slave cylinder replacement job: There was clutch fluid leaking after my clutch became completely inoperative.

I stripped down the slave cylinder to see if the o-ring had been destroyed or deformed but it looked okay but bought a replacement anyway. The reason I asked about your banjo bolts was because I thought one of my was a tad loose and wondered whether that had been the reason for my fluid escaping.
I still have the old slave cylinder a may perform a presuure test on it one day.

I have subsequently learnt that old hydraulic fluid kills slave cyclinders. That came from a popular supplier of BMW spares, which also sponsors this site.

If you can't find a fluid leak try bleeding it or get the geezers at SBW to do it again, gratis, because it should only take 5 mins.

I look forward to hearing the outcome.

Yep checked all the bolts

Bleed the clutch this morning (i do belive its now oil not clutch/ brake fluid)

Fluid has gone down so could have been a bit of air had a good look round no signs of leaks etc

Havent had time to test ride but will see how it goes

If the bike has recently been serviced - then I would be throwing the bike straight back to the garage and telling them to feckin sort it and suggesting perhaps this time a mechanic does it and not the YTS monkey.

It should be Vitamol V10 mineral oil or equivalent. Never used Dot3 or Dot4 brake & clutch fluid, it will wreck the seals.

common....

Common problem about 2 years ago. A recall was done to re-route the clutch hose away from the exhaust. Suggestion was it was boiling and fails exactly as you've said.

Long hot motorway run, pull clutch, nothing.... interesting as I approached the channel tunnel book in desk and couldn't stop without a stall:blast

check at the dealer that the recall ( a cable tie... honest), has been done...

Roger.
