OO.....I'm panting.......saw on Prestige's web site last night that they've got a marginally used GS Adv in...so off I tootle today to have a slobber all over it......

Closed on Mondays?

What's that all about then!!!! :firemth

(It's the only day i can go in so i'm stuffed!)

I've been lurking here and in Advrider too for a while, and am shortly gonna be in a position to lash out and get meself a GS......I've tried the Tiger (hmm nice but looks pants) and Varadero (Looks like a lego bike and ...er, is that really a chain on an 'adventure' bike?) and am pretty sure it's gonna be a GS for me....wether it's gorgeous Mandarin (Damn thats pretty!) or a silver Adventure ((ooo more toys but not as pretty)) I'm not sure yet......., but I got my first 'proper' bike from Stuart at Prestige four or five years ago and was well impressed then....I was doing my direct access and wanted to buy immediately on passing, so scouted around before the test date...Stuart and Prestige were the only ones to give me the time of day and spend time talking to me and tolerating my stupid newbie questions....other dealers (non bee-em) didn't want to know soon as i told them I hadnt passed at that point.

After sales was good too....the Funduro i bought developed a leaky oil seal on the gearbox, Prestige whipped it in immediately and chucked me the keys to a nice shiny R1100R for the day....Big grins!!!

So....difficult choices coming up.....In reality i doubt I'll ever do much more than tour a bit, nip off to Europe and terrorize cages in the big bad city, but as a self confessed gadget nut i don't half fancy that adventure.....BUT THE MANDARIN LOOKS SOOO PURDY!!!

*wrings hands*

OO......final note.......In the front window up at prestige they had a Harley 883 in black and orange with a big notice on it saying ' Having a mid-life crisis? Buy A Harley!'

Made OI Larf!!!!

:D

my few dealings with prestige have always been pleasant. however, they are currently (or will be very soon) selling a nearly-new graphitan GS. i happen to know that this vehicle is stolen/recovered - and this information wasn't forthcoming when i was last down there. to be fair, i didn't really push the issue, so the history may have been revealed if i'd shown more interest in the bike.

so i don't know if this is a warning or not - but worth letting you know none-the-less.

Thanks prOne.....i really just wanted to play with it a buit and see if they'd let me take her out for a quickie.......i'm not ready to buy for a short (hopefully) while yet....there are adv/normal gs decisions to be made thougH!!

ALways usefull to have a bit of extra knowlefge though...i'll see if they mention it when i go back in....I'd imagine they would because i believe the V5 showes its Stolen Recovered.......or at the very least any insurance company should have it on a database so it would show up at that stage...cant see any decent dealer not telling !!!

Fanum, when you make your choice, make sure its a mandarin one, because IMHO, I think they look gorgeous too!!
looking forward to seeing you at the Farningham meets.

Phil:p

Phil...one of the problems i have is me GF and I both used to work for the AA (hence the tag 'Fanum', the original postcode and my old FM radio callsign associated with the AA) and she hates the mandarin colour 'cos of its likeness to AA colour......even with the wife/GF/pounds conversion, i cant convince her that a new GS in mandarin is a bargain at 3 grand hehehh.

On a serious note, i really want her to be with me on the purchase, and i've heard/read that the GS twin seat is way more comfy for pillock passengers than the single seat ADV version......yeah, i could convert and go see Melvin (his blue piped seat looks fekkin gorgeous on the blue and white gs from the forum ((sorry cant remember whose it is as typing)) but i'm going to be extending the wallet already buying a new one and gel pads would be something i'll get done if i need and as i can afford rather than immediately.

SOOOO........the blue and white is very smart too and unless i go for an ADV, i reckon it'll be the best compromise between fantasy bike acquisition and conjugal rights.......

Women heh!!!

I got my Adventure from Prestige Motorcycles.

They were the first BMW dealer I visited and offered a me discount that I couldn't beat anywhere else - even from imported sources. They now know me by first name and like you, also provided me with a courtesy bike while mine was in for its first service. Their attitude is definately 100% better than any of the other Jap bike shops that I've used.

Originally I went to their shop to look at a 2nd hand GS but when I got there, it was sold. They showed me the Adventure & I bought it there and then. All in all I am really happy with it but agree that the normal GS looks a comfier place for a pillion. Good luck with your new bike -whatever it is.

Just picked up my new GS from Prestige. A great bunch of people to deal with. Very friendly, gave me a super deal. They worked hard to get my business as I demanded quite a bit of a discount. Simon gave me their demonstrator for an afternoon - no charge - and Tony gave me excellent advice on collecting the bike. Even Stuart the owner got involved, personally wishing off every new sale. If this months BMW Bikes is anything to go by, their servicing should be second to none as they have one of the most experienced service managers in the UK.
They also do Dealer Fun Runs for people who have bought from them.
Complete contrast to Park Lane in London who may have the shiny glass showrooms but know bugger all about making the customer feel welcome - hence they lost my puchase
Rock on Prestige !

That's what I like to see - an 18 month-dead thread resurrected!

Welcome to the GS madhouse, Starman

:D
