I'm off to Spain on the Plymouth to Santander ferry next week.

I normally make sure my tank is virtually empty when I get on the ferry to take advantage of the cheaper spanish petrol.

With the poor Euro/Pound exchange rate dies anyone know what the price over there is now?

Thanks

Just got back and although I am not an avid petrol price watcher, I seem to recall it was around 1.30-1.35 Euros???

So - yes it is still cheaper

A 10p price difference on a full 22 ltr tank will give you a one off bonus of £2.20.

A 20p price difference on a full 22ltr tank will give you a one off bonus of £4.40.

Of course if that's assuming your pushing the bike on and off the ferry to take full advantage of the life changing money saving to be made.

And if you've a 31 ltr ADV tank you can fill your boots and feel like you've won the lottery.

I filled up in Plymouth so that I could get straight out of Santander and get to the good roads ASAP:thumb

Well, you'll never be a millionaire.

But you've got your priorites right, as the filling stations in ferry terminal location are usually far more expensive than the rest anyway. :blast :D

If you are heading towards Potes via the defile, there is a service station/cafeteria a few clicks before you turn left up into the Picos. Handy stop off if you want to clear Santander asap.

€1.23 per litre for unleaded in Spain - average figure for August 2008.

Greg

Just crossed over from the French side where the petrol was €1.52 (if you use your satnav and find supermarkets, you can get 1.37. Here in Spain, €1.21 is easy to find. If you're off to the French side afterwards, fill up before you cross...

Not as good as it once was, but still cheaper than uk. Switzerland seemed to be the cheapest place.

TRY CARREFOUR

Many of them have gas stations usually cheaper, the one in Santander is in PEÑACASTILLO (2 minute ride from the ferry port) use a credit card to pay at the pump (otherwise the guy will request your Tarjeta Club physically and you don't have one yet) and when asked (by the machine) if you have a TARJETA CLUB CARREFOUR say yes and choose to enter manually the number 275 8002 964 919.

If you want to get one yourself (it's free) walk into the shop up to the information desk and ask for a Tarjeta Club Carrefour, fill a form and they'll give it to you right there.

It works in all Carrefour gas stations.

I hope this helps.

Livigno is cheaper - between the Stelvio pass & the CH border
I paid 1 euro a litre in June. It's part of Italy but has some special tax status.

CH worked out at £1 a litre on the same trip

Can I just be the first to say, that I don't give a flying feck how much petrol costs when I'm off on one.If the difference is that meaningful to you, maybe you should ride a Honda 90 instead of a gas guzzling artic.Do you wander up and down the street asking how much the beer is in all the bars, and then go for the cheapest,or do the same in restaurants, look for the cheapest campsites(after all,you wouldn't stay in a hotel while you can camp, would you)...................

Rant over, you can all carry on now:augie

Remeber this phrase for spanish petrol stations.

Hasta es lleno

pronounced

asta es yeno

means " until its full" !

Most spanish petrol stations have pump attendants.

Or you can use the word completo [com-play'-to] when asking for a full tank.

Local garages now charge 1.15 euros per litre so pull off the main routes for the best deal.
