Buy your own tyre iron and never have to depend on anyone ever again

thing is ive seen um do car tyres and looks like its a skill looks like i would start then wont be able to do it then be stuck with out a bike and at mo its the only form of transport i have so be right in the poo poo

i use two places round here. one charges a tenner, the other ten, five or nowt depending how the mood takes them. that is for loose wheels.

twenty is too much. maybe ok for ride in, ride out :nenau

I paid Mike at Cardiff Motorrad a tenner to swap my worn Avon for a part worn Tourance that had been lurking in the back of the garage for a while. Fitted to a loose wheel.

As Steppers says buy some levers and learn how to do it yourself. Well worth the effort and will save you plenty of wonga on both tyre prices and fitting.

I change my own tubed tyres but not tubeless.

Check what they`re actually charging you for.

£20 a wheel is steep for simply changing the tyre on a loose wheel, but average price for wheel removal and tyre change.

Where I go the tyre changing is free on loose wheels if you bought the tyres at that place...or £5 a tyre if they were bought elsewhere.

No Joke, I paid £50 a wheel at my local BMW dealer. That was ride in / out.

I first asked at my local Honda dealer and they charged about 20 quid but said they could not balance a BMW wheel - something to do with the design would not fit their machine.

many places can't balance a rear, they can't fit it on their balancer machines, needs an adaptor.

....but fifty fecking quid??

I would bet they charged a full hours (Even though it took less) labour and then slapped VAT on the whole amount - typical.

I would try doing it myself... but would like to watch someone do it first.

Perhaps a kind Tosser would do either a photo step by step - or even better a video - uploaded onto youtube and available for all to see and marvel at. :bow

just a thought.

Some of the older Haynes bike manuals had a step-by-step tyre changing guide, including photos, at the back. I can't remember if they still do, but I would guess not. If you have an old manual lying around, check it, or get your hands on a mates copy. It's not difficult, just takes time and care, protect rims etc.

i know it's possible, but like tarka, i would not change tubeless tyres myself. tubed are no prob, but i usually get it done professionally anyway.

there are exceptions though

Why doesn't everyone want to change the tubeless? Is it because the side walls are thicker?

I do them £20 the pair loose inc ballance front & rear, let people ride down & remove own wheels(supply tools), or it's another £20 for me to do it but you are a good way away from ashbourne

A tyre place in Wrexham (Autokit) charged me £6 to fit a front tourance to a loose wheel, and another £6 to balance it, not bad, I have levers and a compressor but really for £12 it was not worth the effort, I had started to change it myself and had already succeeded in breaking the bead (large vice) Stewart

About a fiver a loose wheel I reckon........... A monkey could do the job with the correct tools!......I used to be a tyre fitter many years ago and its not exactly hard to change a motorcycle tyre.... Takes longer putting the correct pressure in it that changing it!
