Priests who raped children

there seems to be a growing clamour for the truth in ireland and this will expose the truth eventually.

There have been many atrocities tolerated on these shores. We have had the most sickening of acts carried out here in the name of our nation .At the minute we are having to endure "Priest"bashing ,Its really easy , just sit behind you Puter and have a go ! . The Catholic Church is a massive outfit , and like all big outfits there is good and Bad . Least we forget there are lots of Good Priests in our service that have done Enormous good in all the communities we ALL live in.
What has happened wouldl disgust any right thinking man , but if we could put these incidences into a context , i am almost sure it would rep resent a very small percentage.

That is indeed the case John. Getting to the truth is one thing, but unfortunately prosecuting the bastards seems to be quite another altogether.

Not at all , quite a few have had hefty sentences .

All very well - but the Catholic Church as a whole, and right to the very top.....................................

Sought to continually - cover it up, rather than address it - thereby perpetuating it.

So - I would say, that your "big outfit" was rotten to the core.

Al :)

Not as many as there should have been. Just ask the survivors of their abuse. What do you mean by "incidences". Their actions have destroyed many lives Phillip and you are doing them an injustice by speaking in such a manner.

Dont get me wrong , what happened was an atrocity ,there is no question.
Wrong from Top to Toe..
My thread in no way Dilutes what happened , and i recognise it has
ruined lives.. No Question.
If these incidences could be measured , NOT in any
physical manner ,that would be impossible , it would show that NOT ALL
Clergy are bad. What i am Saying is , there is an awful Lot of good eminating from
all churches.
And i also believe in the legal system , which i believe will catch up with them all.

In saying all this ,Its easy to get carried away with all the priest bashing thats going on at the Minute .

You could call it "priest bashing" or you could call it "public outrage" - without which............ there is every chance it would all be swept under the carpet (again).

10 per cent of the clergy in Ireland is the official percentage of priests who abuse children. So about 8 per cent more than the rest of the population. There are many more mothers, fathers, uncles, aunts brothers and sisters who abuse their kin folk, than there are priests in Ireland. Not trying to defend the Roman Catholic Church in any way just putting some straight facts. 2 per cent of the population abuse children equal men and women. Prison is not the answer, killing is too quick, hard labour along in a chain gang for life may be more appropriate. An untrue allegation is just as difficult to deal with.

The legal system doesnt deal with the smallest fraction of them. 8 years average sentence then let them out to do it again. Most cases especially family don't get reported.

Why hasn't the resident population knee capped them, thats the usual punishment for religious crimes in Ireland?

WTF...............sure the Gardai were in on it all too...............................

So much for that...................:nenau

The Judiciary and the Gardai are not the Same.

They have pretty much "Gone Away you Know"

I'm not sure I am qualified to comment on this thread other than to say that it seems to me that when sexuality of any kind is surpressed, such as in celibacy, I think you can only expect what we have got.

That was just a little Tyrone parapraxis...................

Like...................

"when you mean one thing, but you say your Mother"...................:augie:augie

No question there are some good priests, but we are not talking about them, we are disgusted by what was ALLOWED to happen, horrific acts of abuse carried by priests and nuns for many many years. It is not bashing of all priests but you have to admit the catholic church don't have much to be proud of at moment, past or present.

No question there are some good priests..............

The lady speaks the truth; the chaplains in the hospital where I work are fine men and women (most of the men are priests). Theirs is not an easy job - looking after the dying and their relatives - the shadow cast over them is not deserved. However the casters of that shadow should have been dealt with; what we got was a Lady Macbeth response "what in our house".

Whats being talked about is very "General"
I stand fast , for all that is good in all churches.

Personally , im not that much into churches of any discription
i dont really partake , but hate this generalised Bullshit ,
i have a gran uncle who is a Catholic Priest and a good Man ,
he gave his life for Christanity , i know that was his call .
But i will NOT allow his works to go down the swaney , because of the
actions of a few.

But surely even he would be the first to acknowledge the harm done by the "few".

  1. Vocations to the priesthood massively down.
  2. Church attendance massively down.
  3. Revenue massively down.
  4. The standing of the church in society massively down.
They are fecked and they know it, if only they would admit it. The CC position in Irish society is completely different to what it was just a generation ago and it aint never coming back. And rightly so.

The ordinary priest may well have been let down on a huge scale by their "superiors" but they are also to blame for not calling them to account.
