Anybody had a problem with the fit of the Akropovic SP titanium slip-on can? The SP is the 'budget' version - titanium sleeve with stainless internals and pipe but still weighs in at a not inconsiderable £360.00. Call me tight (and I know you will  ) but it seemed a resonable compromise and a damned sight cheaper than the whopping £495 for the BMW/Akro version and the slightly cheaper full titanium Akro can.
The problem is that the rubber bump stop which is supposed the stop the centre stand from smacking up into various parts of the bike - isn't. Consequently, I've now got some large chunks out of the underside of the swing-arm :spitfire .
The problem seems to be caused by the fact that the leg of the stand doesn't strike the bump stop square on - it's offset and this subseqently reduces the amount of clearance on the other side. The foot plate of the stand is literally a couple of mm's from the swinging arm and is whacking it when pushing the bike off the main stand.
Now whilst I don't profess to be the greatest mechanic in the world, I'm now spanner wielding clutz either - there are only two ways to fit an oval can - the right way and upside down! Currently hoping to get this matter resolved between the supplier and the importer. Just wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience? Wish I'd paid the £500 for the BMW version now!

The BMW version is no better.

When fitting the silencer it's critical that the oval can is rotated so from the rear it appears absolutely vertical...if it's offset either way the rubber stop will not align with the centre stand correctly...as appears the case in your images.

There is a mark on both the exhaust outlet pipe and the silencer pipe which are meant to align the whole thing correctly....I believe this is mentioned in the instructions........?

Also, I don't think the rubber stop is thick/hard enough in some cases and as it unscrews I've known some users pack out with a couple of washers.....but this wasn't necessary in my case.

I've had my BMW/Akro can for about 9k miles now and no marks on the swingarm at all.

Cheers

Dutch

Thanks for posting the pics............. :thumb I found a similar rubber stop lying on the garage floor the other week..........

Think I'll have to go and have a look at the stand to see if it has come from there

The range of 'adjustment' is minute - believe me, I tried all ways. I've also had the same problem with the carbon fibre hanger marking the can as mentioned on other threads. I love the look of the can and the noise it makes but can't help feeling a bit disappointed - the Remus article is substantially cheaper and I haven't read of any problems with that one?

wouldn't hurt to stick one of those little square 3M flat rubber adhesive pads that are supposed to go under furniture etc. under the swingarm where the stand is likely to contact it... I did that to mine the day I got it and I noticed it's taken a couple of hits over the years...

.....Update.....

The Akropovic importer is a firm called Performance Parts based near Rugby. I took the SP can up to them on Friday so they could have a look at it. They did some measuring and the lug to which the stand bung is attached did appear to be fractionally out.
As the SP is no longer produced, they replaced it with a full titanium can (exactly the same as the BMW part but with the Akro sticker). Fitted it this afternoon and this one fits perfectly.
Okay, I've got a couple of nicks out of the swinging arm which I'd rather weren't there but I've got a nearly £500.00 can in place of the £360.00 one I originally purchased. Very happy bunny :bounce1
Nice people at Performance Parts too - top service. :clap
