Problem with webmail

Some help would be appreciated with a niggle with webmail . . .

I occasionally use webmail via my Windows XP notebook to view and respond to email, rather than Outlook on my desktop. I can login OK, problem is every time I try to move from message to message or from folder to folder, I am required to login again! The same applies to each of my pop accounts. The hosting company, Verio, have been helpful but can't replicate the issue, so I've drawn a blank there. I am wondering if it is something to do with IE security settings or firewall, but don't really know where to start changing things, so throw myself to the mercy of anyone who may have resolved a similar problem.

Sounds a bit like a cookie glitch - your authentication isn't being retained between logins.

Look under tools, Internet options in IE. IN the dialog box that pops up choose the "Privacy" tab. Is that set to "High" or "Block all cookies"? If so, try dropping the slider down to the bottom and try your webmail site again (don't try any others...) if it works, keep pushing it up a bit and trying again until it breaks, then dropping it back down to the previous setting. I find "Medium" works for me...
 
Thanks, I tried this, but no joy. The strange thing is, webmail works fine from my desktop, but not on my notebook, even when they're sharing the same broadband connection!

Any other suggestions gratefully received!
 
bum, thought it was a possibility

The other thought is the "logon" option under the "Security" tab in the same place - click the "Custom Level" button and scroll down to the bottom of the "Settings" window - are you set to "Prompt for username and password"? If so, change to "Automatic Logon only in Intranet zone".

I hate to say it, but it may come down to double checking the IE settings on the two machines to look for differences.

You could also try installing Mozilla Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/) and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't you may be being bitten by a weird security setting elsewhere in the Windows operating system. IE is a little bit integrated, so another browser might give you a "get out of jail free" card.
