Hi

I was wondering if anyone has encountered / overcome the same issue?

I have fitted the Givi SRA5108 Top Box Mounting Plate to my GS1250. It fits really well and looks unobtrusive / almost OEM in the Aluminium finish. So far so good. I have now purchased a Givi Trekker 46 N Top Box (the one in black / aluminium that can also double up as a pannier & will go well with the Vario Panniers). It just doesn't want to latch on the top plate. The rear lugs locate OK, but the rubber 'stoppers' prevent the case from being pushed down to 'latch' without applying a great deal of force. Ive tried the Trekker 52 N Top Box and this sits / latches really well - however I prefer the size / look of the 46?

My brother picked up a Triumph branded Trekker (Cheap ebay purchase), that doesn't sit on a standard plate. Not much help, I appreciate, but clearly those Trekker's have some variety to the plate.

Hopefully someone with more experience of those will be along shortly.

I’ve got the same top box and mount, and it needs some serious pressure applying to get it to lock, but it does lock down.

Thank you both for your input. I really like the Top Box - but the amount of pressure required does not feel right at all - particularly when compared to the 52L version.? Fluffmeister - did yours get any better with time?

I've had a couple Givi top boxes over the years and when new they are a tight fit

Push the inside of the box down with one hand whilst supporting the bottom of your mounting plate, it will snap into place

Different thickness rubber cushions are available from giving via fleabay

You should have two full sets of rubber bungs for the sra plate, the thicker ones are for the aluminium top boxes and the thinner ones for the plastic boxes .

If you have the wrong ones fitted the aluminium box will rattle and if the other way around the plastic box can be a pain to fit

It has mate, it’s a little easier but certainly the first times were a hoofer of a job and I double checked I’d fitted the correct rubber pads.

A lot easier now, but needs a firm hand and you get a very satisfying “CLICK!”

Thank you. I have the thinest pads and inserts that came with the plate fitted. I might see if I can get an even thinner set. Just frustrating with brand new kit from a reputable manufacturer.

I had EXACTLY the same problem

Take the plate off the bike and see if the box will lock onto it when it is not on the bike

If it does, the plate has been bolted down too tight causing the alloy to bend slightly

Before I picked up my new F850 in May the dealer fitted a Givi alloy top box place.

When I got the bike home my Givi Trekker would not latch onto the plate no matter how much I tried.

After a lot of head scratching I took off the mounting plate and with it not on the bike, the box mounted perfectly

My conclusion was that the plate had been mounted with the holding bolts too tight, warping the plate slightly.

There are no torque setting in the install instructions provided by Givi so I could not blame the dealer

I decided to loosen the bolts slightly, try again, loosen a bit more and so until the box mounted perfectly.

The nuts have nylon coating over the threads (self locking?) so should not come loose.

Although I keep an eye on the mounting bolts they have not loosened in the last 2500 miles

Hope this helps

Mike

I had the correct ones, fitted nice and tight. Used to click in place with no issues, I have the 52l. 3 years down the line box started to rattle. New rubber will need to be purchased.
