problems with bike to bike

rich me and kelvinG have just fitted our 300 duos to our bikes (both 08 gsa) with all the correct gear from autocom that you told me i needed and took them out for our first run to try and get them sorted yesterday i had my kenwood mounted on the side of my tankbag and kelvin had his mounted to the rear rack. we both had ipods fitted in the aux 3 position the problems we are having are

1 a high pitch screach that comes on stays for a short period then goes off
2 the music is at the vloume set when you are going slow ie when you are pulling up. them as you pick up speed the volume fluctuates.sometimes high sometimes low
3 i can hear kelvin but he cant here me very well if at all
is there a delay as when i speak kelvin dosnt hear the first words i spoke, he only hears half the sentence. we have checked everything is fitted correctly . the kenwoods have the autocom dummy battery fitted. they are fitted to the grey lead from the main unit. are the rider and passenger head sets the same? the only thing that i can think of is that i have fitted the passenger headset into the rider helmet. any ideas?
what should the settings be on the main unit for the vox we have every one set at half way the way we got it out of the box

I don't have experience, but from what I've read, the vox setting is critical. That most users go for PTT rather than faffing with setting up the vox. HTH

1, The only part that will scream is the Kenwoods really due to the radios timing out as in they have been transmitting for too long.

2, Either VOX settings or where the BGNS's have been fitted.

3, When running VOX there will always be a 1st word delay on the transmit, also if you pause for a slight second the transmissions would be cut.

VOX wise turn the dial a little bit anti clockwise until you are happy

If you stick with VOX then get used to blowing quickly onto the mike twice. This opens the channel and then you'll be heard clearly. I use them for training so you get used to doing it. Otherwise PTT is your best friend!

I am also using this set up and have decided to bin the dummy pack as there was too much interference with it. I'm using the battery with 2 pin curly lead into the grey plug, works fine now no matter how long I am transmitting. Also dont like the PTT so back to using Vox.

Vox is a hit or a miss..............

It depends on a whole lot of factors like noise levels in yer lid and your 'talking' volume ..........


a simple ptt button is the bottom denominator.............how important is your message that it wont wait 2 seconds till you can push a little button on yer left handlebar?


have never found a vox system that will cope with motorways and town work without the accompanying 'slow to open .........open all the time transmitting white noise'.........

Yes I dont use a fancy box between me and my radio ...........but your asking allot of it to cope with the varying db levels involved.........

I would be happy to buy one that could reliably open and close in all situations.............


but for now I use a little waterproof button velcroed to my left handlebar......

( I have used 'professional' vox systems in vehicles where you have to get into the habit of saying 'ehhh' before every transmission just to open the sod up and ensure the first 2 seconds aint clipped......................but a button is simpler)

Ive never know a Part 1402 to cause interference before and this is with us selling 1000's across Europe so I am unsure on why you found your noisy.

I didnt it was the guy following me. I had a spare battery and curly 2 pin lead so swapped them over & all was well.

We are both using the Kenwood TK3201 radios via the autocom 300 duo and I was wondering if we have to have the vox enabled on the radio as well or will that interfear with the vox settings on the autocom?

Don't switch on the VOX on the radio. Myself and a mate of mine made this mistake when using our radios for the first time and the high pitch noise through the helmet was unbearable to the point that I was ready to tear my helmet off while driving. All was well once we switched the VOX off on the radios and got the level right on the 300 control.
