The last three times i have used my 550 the screen has frozen after about 60 minutes or so! , unit wont respond or turn off using on / off button, if i push the plus button (top left corner) and off button the unit will turn off.

I can then re set destination etc and carry on but after a few minutes the same happens, unit is powered by the bike and when removed from the cradle the battery indicator is showing fully charged.

I have tried the ususl fixes, removing the battery but no joy!

Anyone have any ideas?

A friend of mine had a similar problem with his 550 (I had sold it to him a few weeks before) which locked up completely.

He got an exchange direct from Garmin. Not for free as it was well out of warranty but not hundreds either.

Garmin are aware of this 'glitch'. It happened to me a few years ago abroad, and by chance I managed to unlock it although I didn't know at the time about the on/off and + button trick.
I phoned Garmin when i got back and they told me that it happens to some and not others, and that if it happened to mine again I should send them my device and they would apply their quick software fix.
It hasn't happened again since then so i never sent it off .... :thumb2

Thanks, looks like ill have to get in touch with Garmin,:blast
