I thought I should dig the GS out from the back of the garage this morning, after having not ridden it for nearly two months!

I have muffs fitted, could I find the fast idle lever? Nope after having ridden the Divvy for most of that time, and over the last few days, the 100RT I was flummoxed

So, nothing ventured, I thumbed the starter............................... after having lost that for about one second.

bike fires into life for about a second, try again, with some throttle, all is well. I had to stop at the second junction, engine cuts out, wouldn't start. Finally remembered where the fast idle lever was, engaged, still won't start, several seconds later, engine fires.

then all was well in my world.

Its the horn button that eludes me when the muffs are on.

Put label with little arrows on the muffs.... works every time

Or turn the lights out in the garage and try for practice

I think that just proves you are out of practise of fumbling around in muffs.

Fast idle; to activate before or after the starter button?

That, is my question.

In the absence of a definite answer I have applied my usual rule of small protruberances - I fiddle with it a bit..

My fast idle has gotten progressively more difficult to push back 'down' after it is pulled up. ANy one else experience anything similar? When i first got the bike it would happily glide up and down... I may take the whole contraption apart and see is a piece of dirt or something is blocking it... any ideas/experience?

Can't hurt to lubricate/clean it, if it's stiff now, what have you got to lose? Hmm, I wish I hadn't said that.

Mine was stuck solid when I bought the bike. There's a little ball bearing on a spring that holds the lever it in the 'fast run' (as opposed to fully on) position and that was all rusted up. After stripping, cleaning and lubing it was all fine but be careful you don't lose the ball or the spring! From what I remember reassembling it all was a bit of a fiddle.

The correct name for those ball/spring combos is a ping feckit, .my record is two days crawling around the back garden looking for the lost valve collet. (It was actually in the shed, it must have done a series of ricochets to get there)

Me too. I have on more than one occasion given a loud blast of the left hand indicator to some pillock in a car

The horn button eludes me without muffs sometimes - I too have done some furiuos left indicating.
