hi all
any one know of any kind of cover/gaitor thats avail for the front shock, this is going to be my first winter on the gs and i have been known to avoid cleaning my bikes in the past . the shock looks as though it will take all the salt spray direct which can not be good. also whats everybodies best tip for the survival of the dark months ahead i would like to think the gs will look as good as new in spring ( please dont tell to wash it ,i will as often as i can ) cheers cral

I'm sure the other guru's here will advise you of the best solution for the shock, but as for winter riding.. you have few options other than keeping on top of the fettling.. I've ridden through many winters, the last two on a 650GS, now about to do the same on an 850GS.. you'll think i'm mad, but every evening when i get home i have a pressure washer, set to low, constantly hooked up outside the garage, quick blat with that, then into a HEATED garage for the night, every weekend i then spend at least 2 hours using turtle wax wash (with 3 times the reccomended amount).

Just sold the 650, 27k on the clock, only 2 years old, 24 months of solid riding, showroom condition. It's a pain mate, but that's winter riding.. either that or get an old hack.

My initial idea is to put a length of old inner tube around the shock. You'd have to take it off to do this. No idea if it'd work but it sounds like a good bodge :D

At Beaulieu I saw a stall selling gaitors that fit round the shock. I think they were made of neprene, but I'm not certain.

yes thats the kind of thing i was thinking of , i'll see if i can cut up an old wet suit and get my seamstress friend to attach some velcro i will report back, i saw some fork leg protectors on a site some where that worked on the same idea

Fork leg protectors form Racespec. Non listed for the GS when i got mine, but if you call them, tell them what bike it's for and if poss, measure your forks they'll supply some to fit. Carbon fibre, £30.. helps stop the pitting.
