I've just got miself a memory card to store my game data and even though I can play old PS1 games on the 2 console, I can't save my progress. When playing a PS1 game and you try and save, the screen reads 'memory card not in slot' (something along those lines) even though it is.
Is it the norm to not be able to same PS1 games when playing them on a PS2?

I believe you need at least an 8MB card to save games on a PS2, even for PS1 games

Does the heart good to see someone return from their holidays refreshed and ready to throw themselves into work again :thumb

Try this:
move the card very slightly (give it a wiggle) in the slot, my PS2 used to be very touchy about the position of the card. Could be dirty contacts.

Can you read the card in the PS2, before you try to save anything, maybe card is faulty

PS1 games are not compatible with PS2 cards, you need to save it onto a PS1memory card, or just save to the PS2's hardrive.
