HI Folks

I'm looking for some advice regarding Linux and the PS3, a bit of back ground first.

I have a PS3 which I use as a sort of media centre for the family TV IE I stream videos/music via the PS3 for entertainment, now I'm wanting to expand it's capabilitys to include things like BBCiPlayer and the Skyplayer, The PS3 does have a Internet explorer built in but it doesn't support the above BBCiPlayer and I assume the Skyplayer as well.

So since you can put Linux on the system and apparently it works very well, but I know nothing about Linux so before I go fiddling about and breaking things, does Linux have a Internet explorer and an equivalent windows media player that can play the current BBciPlayer and Skyplayer ? and as I understand linux is a free OS is that the same for it's applications ?

cheers for any help or advice

Thanks for that Cookie, it would seem theres a beta version of iPlayer for Linux, but the Skyplayer is a seperate programme you download off of Sky and theres no plans at present to make it Linux compatible.

I know you can get XP to run in a Linux enviroment on the PS3 but it seems a lot of work, I'll leave it for the time being, till iPlayer and Skyplayer have proper Linux platforms

Running XP in a linux enviroment on a ps3 isnt worth the hassle, its slow as anything.

For an easy to use, easy to install linux variant for the PS3 try Ubuntu

Skyplayer may work using WINE which is free. or by using Crossover Linux free trial available.
