Hey all, just wondering if you’ve seen this happen before?

Any ideas on where I would get a spare part? Or is it a case of just buying another one? I bought this one from off here but it was sound when I put it on.

Yeah broke in the same place also couldn't keep the long bolt tight. Given up now and put original bolts back and fitted a Mudsling, does a better job and hell of a lot safer .

Yes its a weak point on them me and my mate both had ours fail on us within weeks of each other

I saw a crack in mine before it broke completely, fortunately I worked at an engineering company with a fabrication shop and one of the lads repaired the crack and plated the arms to strengthen them, grit blast and a repaint, been ok 4-5 yrs now.

Al.

Thanks guys.

I’m happy I spotted it before it became a hazard! I have the mudsling too and they both worked well together.

After I took it off, I have noticed it makes quite a bit of a difference in keeping the rear subframe and exhaust cleaner. I use ACF50 regularly and as you know it’s a grime magnet.

Anyone know if the Chinese knock-off uses a metal or plastic arm to hold the guard?

Hi, My Chinese copy had a metal arm - paint peeled off after less than 6 months. Reverted to only using Mudsling - seems to work pretty well on its own.

Same thing is happening to some guys on the Triumph Explorer forum who have the Puig hugger fitted - cracks/breaks in the same place.

Just fitted mine the other day. It did strike me that it’s a plastic component, effectively being put under a lot of pressure as the bolt is tightened. I guess it would be easy to overtighten, and cause the crack.

totally agree ,mine was the same i couldnt keep the long bolt tight.no matter how much i tightened it,it would come loose in a few 100 miles

+1 with the big bolt coming loose it was only in by two turns when I discovered it, dread to think what would of happened if it came out.

No doubt easy to over tighten, but I did the 59nm with Loctite thing, so expected it to last a little longer than a month on the bike!

I had the Chinese copy , bike went in for service and noted that long bolt was dangerous as loose, now going to remove it and fit the original bolts , I am told by the dealer that the torque settings are 100 and 30 NM , I have now ordered a Mudsling .
These are dangerous and should not be sold of fitted

My Puig one was fine - no issues at all.

I wouldn't use a knock-off one due to the fact that the two mounting bolts are quite important fixings on the bike...
