Please, please, any advice on following; got r/h head damage due to fall, rocker cover smashed and rocker shaft broken, bent head stud (upper front at same piont as broken rocker shaft)
I got engine to tdc (r/h piston at top of stroke, valves closed)and locked with metal drill bit through hole in l/h crankcase.
Marked r/h cam wheel and locked together cam sprocket and chain with cable tie. Replaced rocker shaft assembly with s/h part and swapped my cam onto new assembly.
Refitted making sure engine had not moved and cam sprocket engaged in cam with cut out in bottom (6 o'clock position) of both.
Started up (souned like bag of bolts until I guess camchain tensioner filled with oil and it shut up) but ran very rough, lots of backfiring etc.
Re checked valve timing think all looks ok. Took head off to check for bent valve(s), filled inlet ports with wd40 and left for length of British GP, no signs of wd leaking through.
Stuck now please help before I put it all in a skip. Why does it start fine but then be rough and popping/ Sort of revs up ok.
I noticed when turning over by hand to check timing the inlet valves really clack shut which made me think they may have got bent, but now appear ok(I think).:nenau Help

Have you done the usual check on the throttle cables where the enter the adjuster. Sometimes the cable doesnt seat correctly. Common fault.

Thanks for that, what exactly am I looking for? Both the throttles seem to be opening at exactly the same time and moving the same amount. The choke only seems to operate on the left side ( there is no 2nd cable on the right) but it is operating when I move the choke lever.
Since then I have left the head with wd 40 filled in the inlet and exhaust ports to test for leakage. There is possibly a bit of leakage on one of the ex. valves, but it may be my imagination. In the crash the ex. pushrod was displaced possibly leading to a slight contact tween piston and valve before the engine stopped.

Thanks fellas, I can't remember wether the cable was correctly seated when I started it up. Does the throttle position switch re-set advice stand for my 1100 as well as the 1150 in the artcle? I have to now decide wether to put the head on and try the throttle thing or get a new valve because my imagination says the combustion chamber has a slight trace of wd40 on it,
decisions,decisions!

Go for the new valve, if you don't it will always be in the back of your mind.
Don't know enough to answer your other query.
You need the advice of Steptoe of this parish, hopefully he will notice your plight soon. Good luck.

I decided that I was feeling brave, it was just my imagination, the ex. valve wasn't leaking and to try that throttle position re-set procedure. Put head back on and all the other bits ( becoming a bit of an expert at that now) and re-set throttle as per other thread ( including taking fuse 5 out) .................BINGO!!!!!! runs like a dream!!!!!!!!!!! you guys are my heroes and I love you all, many, many, thanks.
Now just got to glue all my hair back in.:clap :bow
