I love my GS. Best bike I've ever had. When I ride a bike I like to keep the engine spinning nice and free, don't like to labour it at all. I find on my GS though that I really have to keep the revs up or it gets a bit upset. It's a 2006 coming up to 5000 miles, maybe ''not run in yet''. When I get down to 60 I have to start changing down or it really starts chugging away.
Sooooo, at what sort of speed will your GS pull from smoothly in 5th and6th.
I also have to give it quite a fistfull to pull away from zero or it struggles.
I must add, none of this is a problem, I 'm just curious

dunno about speed, but mine can accelerate gently away from about 2,500 revs with no drama.

At that mileage mine wouldn't pull at all below 3000RPM, it's a lot more willing now it's got 25000miles on the clock. It will cruise at 60mph in 6th but there's not much go at that. If you've not had it from new, maybe the first owner was a bit too gentle and it's not run in yet.

After a few miles it should pull smoothly from 2,500 in 6th but it needs 4000RPM plus for decent acceleration.

yeah, gently only. wouldn't want to load it up too much at those revs.

i Think mine was built by Massey Ferg.

Mine will pull cleanly from 30mph in fifth and 40mph in top. Its a 12GSA with over 7000miles on it now. big difference after the 6000mile service, came back with twice as much umph, by god does she stomp in 3rd and 4th. Wheelies real well in second too. yeeharrr :aidan

Its a 1200 twin - let it chug!
Particularly good for driving out of bends, open the throttle early and try to judge it so it hits 4000 just as you exit.

Russ, this isn't your first twin by any chance? It's just that they take a bit of getting used to. They do feel like they are bogging down if you are coming from a multi cylinder background (even if it was a Triumph triple).

My 1150 is perfectly happy in top at 30 mph, even if it won't pull away smartly from there.:thumb2
